Les Filles d'Octobre s'inscrit dans la tradition littéraire des romans à tiroirs, conçu comme un modèle cent fois retissé, une tapisserie posée longtemps sur le métier ayant pour motif central le sens de l'existence, les fils principaux et tendus dessinant la vie de deux soeurs que tout oppose. Du rapport de leur existence émerge le thème du double, de la proximité et de la distance, avec un autre, avec soi-même, entre autres. En effet, ces filles d'octobre sont aussi dissemblables qu'on peut l'être, tellement contraires qu'elles ne peuvent présenter au bout du compte que deux faces d'une même trame qui ne fait que s'inverser tour à tour... Deux destins contradictoires, deux vies plusieurs fois brisées. Une seule quête. Parce qu'il fallait un témoin, un narrateur se souvient les avoir rencontrées du temps de sa jeunesse et pense pouvoir les retrouver. Quel est-il lui-même ? Le tisserand ou le fil ? Les rencontre-t-il du dehors ou du dedans ? Le texte est un roman aux multiples lectures, aux multiples facettes et jeux de langue, parfois crypté ombres et lumières jouant sur les aspects de la vie d'un homme, démultiplié lui-même en autant de rôles, dans autant d'époques, de situations, d'événements de la vie, caché et révélé dans un foisonnement de signaux et de signes. Une musique de fond berce l'harmonie des tons et permet à l'ensemble de trouver finalement sa cohérence. Sous la plume de ce témoin mystérieux qui raconte, imagine, suit les parcours de ces deux soeurs, sur un fond découpé dans l'Histoire du XXe siècle, se déploient la vie et l'oeuvre de deux êtres poussés par une magnifique soif de liberté mais toujours ramenés à la conscience humaine.
