Longtemps marginalisée, sinon négligée, l'histoire des relations culturelles internationales a désormais droit de cité. En quelques années, la bibliographie s'est considérablement étoffée et les initiatives scientifiques se sont multipliées, en France comme à l'étranger. Ce livre, au croisement des disciplines historiques - histoire culturelle, histoire des relations internationales - synthétise à la fois les réflexions antérieures et les travaux les plus récents. Son objectif est de clarifier les concepts et de proposer des méthodes d'analyse.
Des notions en apparence aussi élémentaires que celles de « relations », d'« échanges » ou de « transferts » culturels méritent une définition rigoureuse. Elles sont ici mises en perspective historique dans un ensemble d'études qui montre les divers degrés de la relation, depuis la plus institutionnelle et la plus volontariste (la diplomatie culturelle) jusqu'aux multiples formes de l'acculturation.
Dans le présent ouvrage, l'étude historique de la relation culturelle passe par une analyse systématique de ses facteurs, de ses acteurs et, bien entendu, de son sens et de ses effets, ce qui suppose une lecture des phénomènes d'hégémonie, des mécanismes d'appropriation et des contenus, qu'ils soient esthétiques ou éthiques. Chacun des processus évoqués est considéré sous l'angle des dynamiques spatiales et temporelles, et propose une périodisation et des grilles d'interprétation.
About the Author: Anne Dulphy est maître de conférences en histoire contemporaine à l'École polytechnique et chercheur rattaché au Centre d'Histoire de Sciences Po. Ses travaux portent sur les interactions entre questions internationales, politique intérieure et société. Elle a codirigé Le dictionnaire critique de l'Union européenne (2008) et Intellectuels, artistes et militants. Le voyage comme expérience de l'étranger (2009).
Robert Frank est professeur d'histoire des relations internationales à l'Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne et directeur de l'UMR IRICE, laboratoire du CNRS, de Paris 1 et de Paris 4. Ses derniers travaux portent sur les questions de méthode en histoire des relations internationales, sur le couple Guerre et Paix (Peace, War and Gender. Cross-Cultural Perspectives, en codirection, 2009), sur l'Europe (L'expérience européenne. 50 ans de construction de l'Europe, 1957-2007, en codirection, 2010).
Marie-Anne Matard-Bonucci est professeur d'Histoire contemporaine à l'Université de Grenoble II et chercheur au CRHIPA et au Centre d'Histoire de Sciences Po. Spécialiste de l'Italie contemporaine, du fascisme (L'Italie fasciste et la persécution des juifs, 2009) et de la violence politique, ses travaux portent aussi sur les interactions culturelles internationales. Elle a codirigé Intellectuels, artistes et militants. Le voyage comme expérience de l'étranger (2009).
Pascal Ory est professeur d'histoire contemporaine à l'Université Paris 1 et chargé de conférences à l'EHESS et à Sciences Po. Ses travaux portent sur l'histoire culturelle et l'histoire politique des sociétés modernes. Il a créé le séminaire d'histoire des relations culturelles internationales de l'IHTP en 1991 et vient de publier l'édition en poche de Du Fascisme (2010).
