About the Book

This book teaches a number of "secrets" and practical tips for bringing out the best in toddlers and young children. The tips in the book come from in-depth study of child development and from the author's intensive study of young children demonstrating remarkable maturity, intelligence, grace and courtesy and joy of learning in Montessori environments.

In spite of a wealth of research support for the approaches described in this book, the tips here will be very surprising to many caregivers as they are becoming increasingly uncommon in modern times. Our child-rearing approaches are moving further and further in the direction of training young children to be passive and entitled. The modern approach hinders child development and causes great stress between children and their caregivers; but most people don't realize it.

In response to the tide moving in the wrong direction, the approach offered in this book is very simple and very natural. We simply have to be willing to let go of modern conceptions of child-rearing which tend to underestimate young children.

The great news is this: by taking a very different, more natural and respectful approach to child-rearing, we can raise healthier, happier and more successful children-- and we can do it all with less stress and frustration.

This book will help you nurture the best development in a toddler, teaching: -How some of the child-rearing changes in recent decades are detrimental to early child development and how parenting with high regard and respecting the child's dignity can produce the very best results (Introduction) -About the brilliant natural learning drives your child was born with (Chapter 1) -Why toddlers behave the way they do (Chapter 2-hint: they're on a mission!) -When, and how, to start potty-training (Chapter 3) -A new way of understanding intelligence that will be very enlightening and will allow you to very naturally nurture your child's native intelligence, optimizing their chances to become their best, most brilliant self (Chapter 4), -How to get the young child to love reading (Chapter 5) -Tips for helping young children develop great social skills and become courteous, considerate, and relatable people (Chapter 6) -Strategies for handling tantrums and for raising an emotionally intelligent child (Chapter 7) -How it all comes together to raise your uniquely brilliant child in your unique family for the best results for your child's development and the parent-child relationship (Chapter 8)

This book teaches parents and caregivers how to cultivate the young child's native intelligence and natural learning drives. Starting from the early years, we can raise children with self-reliance, courtesy, and ability to learn and adapt to life's ups and downs. We can build great adult-child relationships based in mutual respect which we can built upon and enjoy for a lifetime. We can avoid creating a lot of bad habits that our children will spend the rest of their lives trying to overcome, and we can live a much more stress-free life with our toddlers!

The author is a child psychologist who worked with hundreds of children and families, and realized that most of the problems they were coming to her for could have been prevented if parents had more insight about child development. But it was her experience observing young children in an exceptional Montessori school that caused an epiphany about how our society is moving further and further in a direction that is harmful to child development. It was concerning to realize how very few people know that this wrong direction gets started in the early years. So many of Dr. Ginny's clients have discovered for themselves how enjoyable the toddler years can be using this simple, natural, Montessori-influenced approach. She speaks nationally & regionally pressing for a movement to spread the word about how a very simple, but very different, approach brings out the ve
