About the Book

Letters to the Broken, Healing and Healed, utilizes poetry to offer advice to some tough issues facing society. In it, the columnist explores themes such as women's rights, gender based violence, child abuse and suicide. Through the use of letters, she carries us on a journey that explores different states of the healing experience, inclusive of disbelief, pain, anger, love and forgiveness. By writing to her audience, we get a taste of her own brokenness, season of reparation and finally wholeness.
About the Author: Trinidadian poet and activist, Katrina McIntosh seeks to cultivate her love for words and her passion for social change. As such, in her book "Letters to the Broken, Healing and Healed" she addresses taboo topics within her culture such as sexual identity, mental illness, child abuse and domestic violence. Her desire focuses on embracing the socially alienated, by exploring practical methods that will assist in their daily life. Her focus on practicality has led to her pioneering exemplary initiatives. When those within the social circle of her faith complained of a desire for a space where they could express their views without fear or persecution, she developed a group called Let's Talk. This group facilitated discussions on sexuality, feminism, abuse and politics amongst radical free-thinking Christians. When the women within her circle expressed a desire for a community of like-minded persons, she developed a group called IAmQueen. Here, she facilitates awareness for women's rights in the Caribbean region, social media discussions that focuses on currently trending topics surrounding women's rights and methods that can be used to solve it. The group also aids in continuous mentorship of its members in a manner that is free from judgement. Katrina's desire to cultivate empathy on this earth allows her to be a powerful agent of change. She hopes to develop future projects such as the creation of transitional housing for the socially displaced. She is currently navigating life as a 27-year-old undergraduate with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling and ECCE.
