About the Book

This book contains an application of the Psyche (si'kee) States Model (PSM), which is described in greater detail in the book, Your Psyche States, by the same author (Create Space title 3528462). The PSM is a state-of-being approach to psychology, categorizing all states of the psyche into six over-arching states, similar to how millions of colors are cast into the six colors of the rainbow. Though it is a very small-dimensional model of a very large-dimensional entity, namely the human psyche, it is flexible enough to describe people from every family, language, and culture. It accommodates the roles played by individuals and communities in attaining the highest levels of human functioning. By focusing on states-of-being and the transitions between those states, the PSM empowers individuals to increase inner freedom in ways that eventually lead to a truly empowered community.Greater inner freedom is within the grasp of almost everyone. The destiny of those who decline to choose their own path is to be constrained by the characteristics of whatever context they find themselves in, a context partly inherited and partly self-created. Taking personal responsibility for who you are, the blessings and baggage of your family of origin, your culture, and your personal choices, is how the journey to inner liberty begins. In doing your part to minimize exploitation and maximize freedom, you will unleash your own potential, spending less time as an energy sink and more time as an energy source for others. This book focuses on the psyche state known as the Liberated state as the basis for personal liberty and the common ground of relationships and communities. After briefly discussing individual liberty and common prosperity, followed by an introduction of the PSM, the levels of the Liberated state are covered, one chapter per level. The levels are Patient, Satisfied, Courageous, Disciplined, Independent, Aware, and Objective. The book ends with a brief overview of the Abundant and Transcendent states, followed by several small appendices covering a brief history of the PSM and some lists of attributes associated with each of the six states. The Liberated state is the state recommended as the BASE state for most people since it is the lowest state that will support the establishment of a sustainable and productive "Common Ground", and because many, if not most people have a Guarded or Unsure BASE. A focus on the Liberated state is compatible with every belief system because it does not preclude the possibility that you will need, seek, and receive some level of divine support in achieving higher states, and yet never requires any agreement with others regarding the very personal area of life of your religious beliefs, or lack thereof. But beware, for the PSM can stimulate extreme introspection.
About the Author: Stephen Smith has a Math degree from San Jose State University, and has worked in the computing field for 25 years, with a focus on systems engineering, systems management, software development, and quality assurance. One of his primary interests is discovering ways that people can overcome the limiting nature of their current context that reduces their freedom to choose their own path. In writing this book he has leveraged his life experiences, his career involving computers, which operate on a state-based model, as well as extensive reading in subjects as diverse as human language and chaos theory to expand on a simple model of the psyche that occurred to him over 10 years ago while reading a book. Though he has great respect for the amazing artistic and objective achievements of humanity, such as math, philosophy, and science (including social sciences such as psychology), he recognizes a manifest complexity in each of his fellow humans, and other living things, that suggests the irreducibility of the soul. We are greater than the sum of our parts! (which is why the Psyche States Model is more influenced by holistic views of the psyche than it is by traditional psychological studies).
