La Ascensión de Isaías es un Antiguo Testamento apócrifo que data del siglo I o II, organizado por un erudito cristiano aún desconocido. De acuerdo con la teoría de Robert Henry Charles, el texto se compone de tres partes distintas. El primero parece haber sido escrito por un autor judío y los otros dos por autores cristianos. Como se ha establecido que fue escrito en el primer o segundo siglo después de la resurrección de Jesucristo, su credibilidad es bastante cuestionable. Contiene 3 secciones diferentes relacionadas con el profeta Isaías.La primera parte del libro se llama el Martirio de Isaías. Dice que antes de que el rey Ezequías muriera, Isaías le advirtió que su hijo Manasés no seguiría su camino. Cuando Manasés tomó el poder, Isaías y un grupo de profetas fueron al desierto y un demonio llamado Belialinspiró al falso profeta Belkira a acusarlo detraición. El rey condena a Isaías a la muerte aserrándolo por la mitad, según la historia judía. La segunda parte del libro se llama la visión de Isaías o el testamento de Ezequías. En esta parte, el autor puede haber insertado un apocalipsis o revelación de origen cristiano y probablemente una leyenda que habla de una visión de la venida de Jesús, la subsiguiente corrupción de la iglesia cristiana, el estado de Belial y la Segunda Venida.La tercera parte describe el viaje de Isaías a través de los siete cielos y habla de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo.La Ascensión Apócrifa de Isaías consiste en unos tres manuscritos etíopes, pero los fragmentos fueron escritos en griego, latín y eslavo antiguo. Estos tres textos parecen haber sido escritos originalmente en griego, pero es posible que el texto llamado "Martirio de Isaías" haya sido escrito a partir de un original escrito en hebreo o arameo. El nombre del libro fue Epifanioy Jerónimo de Estridón, el primer escritor y traductor de los textos hebreos del Antiguo Testamento y los textos griegos del Nuevo Testamento al latín, de los que se originó la llamada Vulgata. Estos tres textos no fueron reconocidos por el cristianismo porque fueron considerados apócrifos y por lo tanto no fueron incluidos en el canon bíblico.
