About the Book

"Life Between Here and There" is an inspirational book to encourage everyone to seek to accomplish more. In addition, the book challenges governments to end corruption and to do more for their citizens. After all, government corruption will destroy a country and its people all too quickly. Wisdom for today: The purpose of life is to find better opportunities. At age seven, I told my mother, "I had a dream last night. I saw myself working in the post office." It was not a big dream such as becoming a doctor, lawyer, singer or a scientist. Children at a certain age start thinking about their future. Parents and other adults will start asking children what they think they may want to do in life. Questions about the future help the child to reach out to explore and begin to connect to the future. I took my dream as a revelation. The post office job was what I was supposed to do. It was part of a plan that God had for me. Most people would laugh at that goal and say, "Maybe you should try for another job that is more important," or "Are you sure that is all God wants you to do?" They are good challenging questions to my 'dream' job, but I felt confident that I should pursue this job as my priority. Unfortunately, I lived in a country that had educational limitations-no computers, no government support, no student grants; and many students dropped out for financial reasons. No one in the family spoke of going to college. Just graduating from high school could be an impossible dream for many reasons. Whether my mother believed that my dream would come true, I had no way of knowing at my young age of seven. I had no awareness of the difficulties that lay ahead of me to achieve the post office job or any job at all. As I grew older, I had other dreams, and I continued to believe God had sent me messages even as a child that actually came to fruition: coming to the United States, having a wife and children, and writing a book to inspire others. My parents taught me and my siblings to go to church. As a child, I learned to pray and to have faith that God answers prayers. As I grew older, I learned that dreams and prayers do not get answered right away. God works in His own ways in His own timing. In some cases, some dreams and prayers may not get answered the way we wanted them to turn out. Does that mean that we should lose faith in God? When what we dream and pray for doesn't come, that's when we learn about patience. For that reason, I've learned a lot about patience over the years, and I'm still learning. In addition, I have learned that some dreams may come, but interference by others may interfere with or destroy our dreams. All I can say is that God always has lessons for us to learn. After all, none of us knows our future perfectly. In the end, all of us can be humbled because God teaches us that life does not guarantee an easy journey to our accomplishments. New surprises, changes, and challenges will thwart us on the journey. God may seem to stop us or redirect us when we are otherwise happy just to keep going along our set path. The devil and those who are evil are always around us and evil influences can change our future. Jesus had difficult times with the devil and those who set out to hurt him, so I, too, cannot always assume my life as a Christian will be easy. Things happen for good, although some things seem to bring bad results. One never knows just how God works. He always has new doors to open for us. But going back to age seven, my first important dream was to work in the post office. It seemed a rather small dream, but to my seven year old brain, it was something I felt that I could accomplish. However, I had no idea of my mother's thoughts when I revealed my dream. If I had been able to hear her doubting me, I would have asked her why. In the years ahead, I would learn what she was thinking: even little goals may not be possible, because you're growing up in Africa.
