After examining the lives of his patients for nearly forty years, retired pulmonary and critical care doctor Paul M. Gustman, MD, turns his focus to his own life-and the experiences that have transformed him into the man he is today.
This poignant memoir follows the doctor from his childhood in Brooklyn to his retirement in Miami, all the while exploring hardships with humor, failures with humility, and joys with thankfulness.
Readers will stand in line at Nathan's at three o'clock in the morning amid a Coney Island snowstorm; step into a med student's shoes as he first glimpses a cadaver's toe tag; have a ringside seat for a twelve-round championship battle, a.k.a. a loving but heated spousal debate; and sift through the remnants of a home in the wake of Hurricane Andrew.
Through each of these experiences and so many more, Dr. Gustman shares not only the wisdom he has gained but also the laughter and love.
