About the Book

WARNING: THIS BOOK IS SHORT AND EXPENSIVE. It is merely 12,000 words long. It's probably only 10% as long as another, very famous book by a Famous Ad Man On Advertising. If you believe you pay by the word, this book costs ten times more than his. But it also challenges things you think you know. Things like, "Say the advertiser's name in the first seven seconds of any radio commercial." That's ludicrous. It's a rule for people who don't know how to be evocative, interesting or necessary. In the first seven seconds? The listener should be intrigued and want to hear more. The words should be captivating. Fascinating. Compelling. The listener should suddenly be plugged into an emotional charge demanding attention, forcing focus and inspiring action. At its best, a radio commercial captures lightning in a bottle. Are you an overworked pro? Do you like being evocative, interesting and necessary? Got limited time and attention? That's why this book is short. It's a specialty product designed for the competent, local radio professional who wants to Do It Now. Want to do better work that makes more money? You might just be in the right place. This book is not going to explain everything about radio advertising. After 15 years in radio, Blaine Parker could fill volumes. Instead, he offers that which is near and dear to the heart of every salesman: effective simplicity. All this book explains is 3 Simple Rules For Writing More Profitable Radio Commercials. Welcome to Lightning in A Bottle.
About the Author: Blaine Parker is the winner of more than a dozen national awards for radio advertising, including two of the Radio Advertising Bureau's coveted Radio Mercury Awards. A Creative Director, Copywriter and VO performer with a special focus on marketing for small business, Blaine is Minister of Covert Ops for Slow Burn Marketing LLC. Blaine's wife, The Fabulous Honey Parker, is Slow Burn's official President For Life. Together, their branding boutique works with small business owners around the globe with the goal of generating ROI by being relevant and evocative. Along with Honey, Blaine speaks to audiences of small business owners about the power of branding. They've presented to audiences as small as 50 and as great as 5,000, in locations as disparate as Boise and Singapore. Previously, Blaine spent more than a decade as a radio advertising Creative Director in Los Angeles. As a member of SAG-AFTRA, Blaine's voice has appeared in national campaigns for brands like Bud Light, State Farm, GoToMeeting, Little Caesar's, Sizzler and Cheez-Its. He has also served as a voiceover performer for NBC TV, appearing on NBC's owned & operated stations. Blaine has also written or co-written many screenplays, some of which have been sucked into that Hollywood no-man's-land known as Development Hell. Blaine's previous lives include stand-up comic, film-production footsoldier and professional yacht bum. A graduate of Boston University, Blaine is also an amateur pizziaolo as well as brewmaster for the Short & Busty Brewing label. He was raised by wolves in Greenwich, Connecticut.
