About the Book

Both a book and a journal, this project represents a modern poet's endeavor to turn his curse into someone else's blessing. Poetry doesn't have much of a place in the world anymore....Or so they say. There are still those of us who appreciate it. There are even those who, like me, write because they MUST write. It is the expression of a deeper contemplation which, for some people, is the only way to process emotions which would be otherwise overwhelming. In a world full of distractions, many people find themselves scrolling endlessly down screens full of what near-strangers ate for dinner. Some say that our society has been hypnotized by capitalism and that we're controlled by the rich elite, but I think we can challenge that together. By spending time reading and writing poetry, you may find yourself more open to lessons in your daily life. Additionally, 100% of the proceeds will go to a person or organization in need, guaranteed.Join the contemplation - join the movement! Read all about it on page one.
About the Author: I've lived an interesting life. It's not really an accomplishment of mine...life just happened, and I kept going because it seemed better than the other option. I was raised in a broken home. That is, my parents were divorced when I was very young, and I had to adapt to the associated lifestyle. My mother and her husband provided love, stability, and life-lessons...they prepared us for adulthood and gave us valuable memories. Theirs was a conservative Pentecostal household where each spouse brought two kids into the relationship. They also had two children together. We were a large but happy family founded on structure. My biological father struggled with alcoholism throughout my youth, and I congratulate him on his current efforts against it. We still had some good times, but there were also some turbulent ones. I spent six years in the military intelligence community, where I came face to face with issues like human trafficking, prejudice and tribal abuse, terrorism, poverty, dictatorships, and worse. Yes, there are worse things in the world than the ones I listed. There were times when I was surrounded by flames, and others where I felt entirely alone. Some of the issues were so intense for me that they're locked away (even still) beyond poetic expression. I also had the opportunity to explore different cultures, live with a Muslim tribe (consider here my Pentecostal upbringing), and see the many faces of God. I've known loss, too many times associated with cancer. For a long time, I lost faith in the world and in God. Perhaps worst of all, I lost faith in myself. None of those wounds have fully healed, but I acknowledge them and I'm working to see them fixed. I watched my wife die briefly during the birth of my daughter. It was a dangerous time for our child as well and, while short lived, it was long enough for me to experience in a small way that truest form of loss. The gratitude I feel to have them both beside me is incomprehensible. I've learned that everyone has a story and we each can learn from another. I feel that my place in life is to share my experiences while learning from others. I've begun to study history and literature as a creative writing major, which is really helping me to find my voice as an author - now I'm hoping to continue the journey while helping others do the same.
