About the Book

Some women get consumed with the fast life and never make it out, but Rose Peers is determined not to be one of them. At the age of eighteen, Rose is desperate to get off to a fresh start. After fleeing Virginia due to the embarrassing facts surrounding her high school sweetheart's murder, Rose goes back to her home town, Baltimore. She has a strict plan that she cannot stray from which is to get settled, and get her children back from her mother, Viola Peers. This plan is much too vague for such a complex mission. Rose is in a fast city with no income and a hotel room to call her own, which was part of the reason why her mother wouldn't let her take her children to Baltimore in the first place. Along with having to make a life for her children, Rose is struggling to find herself. Her childhood had been a rough one. An abusive father and teenage pregnancy were only a few of her battle scars. So naturally, Rose yearns to be loved. A failed relationship shortly after arriving in Baltimore leads Rose on a hunt for her new love, fast money. She links up with Rochelle, a veteran exotic dancer who reluctantly introduces her to the dancing industry and the two become close friends. Life has become so fancy and fun for Rose that she loses sight of her original goal: her children. Rose's mother dies suddenly and things take a turn or the worst. Painful memories and deep, dark, family secrets come back to haunt her, causing her life to spiral out of control. She turns to a life of heroin addiction and prostitution, where friendships are tested, lives are lost, and promises are broken. This destructive path continues on for years. Finally, Rose receives help from an unexpected source, and she gains a new outlook on life. She is determined to stay drug free and to know what real love is. She longs to make her mother proud. Most of all Rose yearns to reclaim her place as a mother in her children's lives. As the temptation of a fast city swirl around her, will she be able to stay focused?
