About the Book

A LONE MAN is based on a true story of a boy who rose from nearly hopeless conditions to become a multimillionaire. Orphaned in an Indian attack in the 1850's, Fred survived years in the arid desert of New Mexico, with only his dog for company. His life was one of hardship laced with adventure. His intrepid spirit survived near drowning, hungry days in a flooded cave, captured by Indians and being swindled by drifters. He was by turns a horse doctor, a prospector, a homesteader and a wealthy landowner. The author met Fred when Fred was in his 90's. He was a simple man whose life had taught him to give more and expect less, to free his mind from worries and free his heart from hate. This book is the story of his life, the accounts of his rise from a bleak and lonely beginning to a life filled with peace, prosperity and love. Fred had no known ancestors and there were no descendents. Fred was indeed "A Lone Man"
About the Author: Jim Browning was born and raised in a rural community in northeast Alabama. He enlisted in the US Army soon after his eighteenth birthday and was accepted in the Army's Leadership program for potential future non-commissioned officers. He served as an Infantry Platoon during the Korean Conflict. As a casualty of war he spent six plus months in four field hospitals, two hospital ships and a base hospital at Sapporo Hokkaido, Japan. When released from the hospital he was assigned to the Japan Logistical Command and further assigned as a body guard for the royal family. Jim is personally acquainted with His Majesty Akihito 125th, Emperor of Japan and served as his personal body guard during the winter Olympics of 1951. Later he was assigned to the First Guided Missile Brigade and was acquainted with Doctor Wernher Von Braun. Other military assignments included; Jim was placed on Temporary Duty (TDY) with Wielding Studios and was a member of the cast while filming "Double duty American." He was later placed on TDY serving with the military's early testing of atomic weapons. He was one of the first fifty Americans to be within one mile (5,000 measured feet) of an atomic explosion. As a civilian Jim's entrepreneur spirit led him to incorporate five manufacturing companies. He has written one military technical manual, two quality control manuals, and one genealogical record for his family. He has also written and published four novels; "A Lone Man", Priscilla", "Breast-Feed Your Dreams" and "The 3rd Platoon". Jim is married for more than sixty years and has five sons and forty three grand and great-grand children.
