We FIRST MET CLINT AND GARY HARRIS in SECOND CHANCES, as each of the widowed, late-sixties brothers stumbled toward new and hopefully-lasting relationships. Now, in LONG WAY HOME their determined pursuit continues, taking them in very different directions---reliving earlier apprehensions and facing new challenges, still seeking the elusive promise of a Second Chance.
THEIR LATE-LIFE FUTURES WERE COMING INTO FOCUE. Gary and Claudia were making plans for a nomadic life together as full-time RVers. In the process Claudia's runaway granddaughter had lead them on an unexpected detour. Meanwhile, Clint and Elly were struggling to create their own future, with Elly's long-standing trust issues forcing Clint to settle for a part-time relationship.
UNTIL, IN A MOST UNEXPECTED WAY, EVERYTHING WAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN. Just as things were approaching normal, Tom Berry burst back onto the scene---wheel-chair bound and willing to play on Elly's stubborn guilt, her part in leaving Tom partially paralyzed. Finally, when it appeared that Clint had lost Elly to his rival, he packed his bags and leaves Tanner.
THAT THREAT TO HIS FUTURE HAD CLINT GRABBING AT STRAWS, looking for relief in unlikely places. While Gary and Claudia managed to reunite Claudia's broken family, Elly tried her best to make sense of Tom's place in her new life. On his own, Clint continued to seek answers that seem out of reach. Finally, having literally retreated to a mountain wilderness, he had come face to face with the most important questions of all.
