About the Book

This book offers a comprehensive compilation of biotic and abiotic factors that affect lychee production and commercialization. It addresses disease management for a range of causal agents, including the leaf mite (Acerya litchi Keifer), leaf miner (Conopomorpha cramerella), fruit borers (Conopomorpha cramerella, Platypeplus aprobola Meyer and Dichocrosis sp.), leaf webber / roller (Platypepla aprobola Meyer), litchi bug (Tessarotoma javanica Thunb), bark-eating caterpillar (Indarbela quadrinotata) and shoot borer (Chlumetia transversa), etc.

Specialized chapters highlight potential approaches to optimizing and increasing the scope of lychee export, as well as systematic research on the development and refinement of technologies for enhancing lychee productivity and quality. Further aspects addressed include post-harvest handling, processing and value addition, the development of tolerant varieties, high yield and processing. As such, 'Lychee Disease Management' offers a valuable resource dedicated to the global agriculture community, which is currently facing considerable production and commercialization problems.

About the Author:

Dr. Manoj Kumar is a scientist with sanguine behavior who is adoring about research and development, with a commitment to lifelong learning. He is determined on high quality science that contributes broadly to both increasing intellectual knowledge of plant development and to increasing the ecological niche. He has a high level of professional desire and intellectual hunt, and the potential to fulfil the dream of his high impact publications and the future recognition of these by academic peers.

Dr. Kumar has pursued his PhD in Plant Biotechnology from prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University and then awarded two postdocotoral fellowships consecutively: i) DBT-PDF from IISc Bangalore in 2005 and then NRF-PDF from University of Pretoria.

Dr. Manoj Kumar is a researcher of Plant Biotechnology in the Division of Microbial Technology at the Amity University Uttar Pradesh, India. Recently he has accepted the affiliation from Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam. Until recently, he was a coordinator of Bio-resource Chapter (Northern India) and served on editorial boards of five international journals.

Dr. Kumar has published several research papers, books, review articles at the international repute. During a decade academic acquaintance, he has guided several research projects and dissertations, and collaborated internationally. His diverse research background attracts the global readers and researchers.

Dr. Vivek Kumar is a scientist with involved in teaching, research and guidance, with a pledge to enduring knowledge. Dr. Kumar is working in the Division of Microbial Technology at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, India. He is serving in Editorial board of reputed international journals viz. Environment Asia, International Journal of Biological & Chemical Sciences, Journal of Advanced Botany and Zoology, Journal of Ecobiotechnology. He is also reviewer of Journal of Hazardous Materials, Science International, Acta Physiologiae Plantarum, Int. Research Journal of Plant Sciences, Int. J. Microbiology, African J Microbiology Research, Journal of Microbiology and Antimicrobials, Environment Science & Pollution Research, Rhizosphere. He has published 61 research papers, 19 book chapters, six review articles and two books. Dr. Kumar has also served as Microbiologist for eight years in Department of Soil and Water Research, Public Authority of Agricultural Affairs & Fish Resources, Kuwait.

Dr. Kumar's research area are plant-microbe-interactions, environmental microbiology and bioremediation. He has been credited with first time reporting and identification of Pink Rot inflorescence disease of Date palm in Kuwait caused by Serratia marcescens. He has been awarded 'Young Scientist Award' for the year 2002 in 'Agricultural Microbiology' by the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI).

Dr. Kumar is establishing an "unearthing and deliverance system", where a balance is being strived between development of drought and salinity resistant microbiome for better crop production in rain fed and saline area. In the bioremedaition research program, isolation and characterization of autochthonous microbiome from textile dye effluent and soil performed very well in remediation of dyes under laboratory conditions. Selected microbiome will be further employed in bioremediation of textile dyes at larger level.

Prof. Neera Bhalla Sarin is working as Professor and Group Leader with School of Life Sciences, JNU, New Delhi. She has served the organization as Professor and Dean. She has set the academic milestones as a chairperson of many academic councils at University level. Prof. Sarin has a proven record in Plant Developmental Biology, accomplished numerous research projects sponsored by Govt of India and International research funding (Indo-Swiss, Indo-Korea, Indo-Australia, Indo-US). She has guided more than 40 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with her sanguine research capability.
