Quel lien existe-t-il entre Léonard de Vinci et l'énigmatique tableau intitulé La fillette à l'oiseau mort visible à la galerie des peintres anciens au premier étage des Musées Royaux de Belgique, à Bruxelles? Ce petit tableau est en effet une véritable énigme de l'histoire de l'art car, jusqu'à maintenant, les experts n'ont jamais compris qui est cette fillette, avec son regard émouvant et perdu dans le lointain, tenant un oiseau mort dans ses mains. De même, jusque là, ce tableau n'a jamais pu être attribué à un peintre avec certitude, pour plusieurs raisons, notamment des repentirs, qui accentuent encore le mystère.

À travers une enquête historique et picturale qui nous transporte jusqu'à l'année 1515 et au-delà, Alexandre Bereczki nous dévoile l'identité de cette jeune princesse qui avait été promise à un très grand avenir et, également, son tragique secret, resté enfoui pendant des siècles. Or c'est grâce à un autre tableau que l'auteur a pu la reconnaître et lui redonner vie. Chose extraordinaire, cet autre tableau appelé La fillette à la fleur bleue, longtemps caché dans une armoire à deux fonds loin des regards indiscrets, est l'un des tableaux disparus de Léonard de Vinci et le dernier tableau peint par le maître florentin, à la fin de sa vie, à Amboise, au château du Cloux, l'actuel Clos-Lucé. Ainsi, Léonard a connu "la fillette à l'oiseau mort" et a même peint son portrait. Plusieurs détails techniques le prouvent, comme l'auteur l'explique de manière précise.

Ces deux tableaux sont indissociables car l'un éclaire l'autre et vice versa; ils sont chacun le témoignage pictural et la clef mystérieuse, d'un point de vue symbolique, d'une circonstance historique tragique.

Cette histoire est celle d'une fillette "pas comme les autres", sous plusieurs aspects. C'est non seulement le récit du dévoilement de son identité, grâce à l'existence de deux tableaux fascinants, mais aussi la révélation d'un secret de famille qui, à l'époque où vivait cette fillette, fut habilement dissimulé par le protocole royal et qui, pour cette raison, était resté enfoui dans les limbes du temps et de l'oubli, jusqu'à nos jours.
