About the Book

A historical novel following the life of one incredible woman, Esmeralda Margarita Magruder. When Madam Esmeralda Margarita Magruder disappeared in 1960, aged 142, her beauty remained that of a twenty-year-old. "If you are a fan of magic realism this is a great historical novel primarily based in the Old West, United States. Great historical figures and alternate history paths to explore and take great amusement from." - Erik Hans

"Incredible imagination. In the old days, they would have made a serial of Ms. Magruder's life for the movies." - Christopher Guest Ace Mulligan, an investigative reporter for The San Francisco Chronicle, interviewed Esmeralda on his first assignment in 1920. Eager to know more, he discovered news stories about her. Some were ancient, others current.

A woman of violence, death, and romance, she lived a varied and colourful life. During her globetrotting, she befriended many famous people, including Mark Twain, Thomas Edison, Ernest Hemingway, and the Dalai Lama.

The time span, datelines, were unbelievable. The mystery of this woman became an unsolvable obsession until, as an octogenarian on assignment in India, Esmeralda re-entered his life.

Embark on a whirlwind journey through history, with famous names and world-changing events, all as part of the endless pursuit of her identity by the eighty-eight-year-old reporter, Ace Mulligan.
About the Author: Richard O. Dahlgren has lived an exciting and varied life and draws on his experiences for material in his novels. He has run with the bulls in Pamplona, survived helicopter crashes, been seconds from a death while surfing, emerged unscathed from a high-speed car crash, escaped the Las Vegas MGM hotel fire, and been buried alive in an avalanche.

In his youth, he lived and skied in the European Alps as an expatriate ski bum, was a transoceanic schooner sailor, a USFS hot-shot crew foremen, a professional ski patrolmen, a ski racer, a big-wave surfer in Hawaii, and tournament tennis player in California.

Richard is a survivor of breast cancer mastectomy surgery, living with his wife, Julie, in an 1868 Oregon Trail log cabin on a trout stream in rural Idaho.
