About the Book

Since first arriving on Canada's shores over 150 years ago, Filipinos have contributed invaluably -- though too often invisibly -- to the fabric of Canadian society. This anthology of writing by members of the Filipino-Canadian community explores Filipino-Canadian identities, experiences, histories, presents, and futures, and serves to reinforce their cultural contributions.

About the Author:

Jim Agapito hosts Recovering Filipino, a podcast from CBC Manitoba featured on CBC Radio One, in which he reconnects to his Filipino heritage through a journey of self-discovery. He lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Hari Alluri is the author of three books of poetry and co-editor of two anthologies whose work appears in anthologies and journals including Chautauqua and Poetry International. He is also an educator and teaching artist. He lives in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Jennilee Austria is a writer whose work has appeared in anthologies and magazines including Geist and TAYO Literary Magazine. She was shortlisted for Room Magazine's 2019 Short Forms Contest and was a 2021 finalist for the Jim Wong-Chu Emerging Writers Award. Her story "Her Life's Work" was longlisted for the CBC Short Story prize in 2022. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.

Mila Bongco-Philipzig is the author of five children's books, three of which are bilingual. She is also a translator, essayist, and poet whose works have appeared in various North American and Asian publications. She lives in Edmonton, Alberta.

Davey Samuel Calderon is an actor and director who is a co-founder of the New(to)Town Collective, an emerging theatre collective based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was born in Oakland, California but grew up in Newfoundland. He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Shirley Camia is the author of four collections of poetry. Her 2019 collection, Mercy, was a finalist for the High Plains Book Award and her 2017 collection, Children Shouldn't Use Knives, was shortlisted for a ReLit Award. Her work has appeared in publications like The New Quarterly and The Puritain. She divides her time between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Toronto, Ontario.

Adrian De Leon is a poet, essayist, historian, and educator who has published two poetry collections and co-edited an anthology of works by writers of Scarborough, Ontario. An ethnic studies scholar, his work has been featured in publications like National Geographic, The Guardian, and Rolling Stone. Originally from Scarborough, he currently teaches at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Nathalie De Los Santos is an author, digital designer, videographer, and photographer. She has released three fiction books, and her work has appeared in Ricepaper Magazine, Gastrofork, and the Vancouver Observer. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Kawika Guillermo is the author of two novels, many short stories, as well as a video game based on his first novel Stamped. In 2020, it won the Association for Asian American Studies Book Award in Prose, and his second novel, All Flowers Bloom, won the Reviewers Choice Gold Award for Best General Fiction/Novel. He teaches at the University of British Columbia and lives in Vancouver.

Marc Perez is an author who published a poetry chapbook, Borderlands, with Anstruther Press in 2020. His first full-length collection is forthcoming from Brick Books in Spring 2024. His work has appeared in EVENT Magazine, The /tƐmz/ Review, decomp journal, Contemporary Verse 2, PRISM international, and Vallum. He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Leah Ranada is an author whose debut novel, The Cine Star Salon, won the Gold Medal in Multicultural Fiction at the 2022 Independent Publisher Book Awards. Her writing has appeared in On Spec, Room, Santa Ana River Review, and Scarlet Leaf Review. She lives in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Steffi Tad-y is a writer and poet. Her chapbook Merienda was nominated for the bpNichol Chapbook Award in 2021, and her debut book of poetry, From the Shoreline, was published in 2022. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Vincent Ternida is an author and screenwriter. He was longlisted for CBC Short Story Prize in 2019, and his debut novel, The Seven Muses of Harry Salcedo, was published in 2019. He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
