About the Book

The story is set in the Orcades, the remote Scottish Orkney Islands in the North Atlantic. More than fifty individual bells hang on steel hoops over the graves of the Fergus family burials on Grave Hill. Each of these is tied to a cord, which passes down through the earth to a hand of the corpse below to summon help should a Fergus be buried alive. Could their death-like seizures be related to the yearly change of Finfolk from sea creatures to humans in the spring and back again in the fall? Is the family cursed by their supposed Finfolk ancestry or is the story simply folklore? The answer is to be found on the enchanted North Sea island of Eynhallow, the reputed home of the slimy Finfolk sea creatures. There, a witch, a priest and the Fergus family members are drawn into a battle against murderous sea beings that come in the fog, a battle that began in a time long before recorded history.
About the Author: John Edward Radcliffe is a Wisconsin guild storyteller who both writes and tells stories based on his travels to remote places throughout the world. John was brought up on the South Shore of Massachusetts so he developed a love of the sea. His hobbies include traveling, mountain hiking and viticulture. His Scottish Isles family background and his romance with the sea made these islands his favorite story hunting grounds. Sixteen of his short stories are published in his book, Storms of the Scottish Isles: Dark tales of creatures and beings on the remote islands of the North Atlantic. His first novel, Howl of the Banshee: Dark tale of smuggling and piracy, is set in the Outer Hebrides, isles described in ancient texts as, "The Isles at the Edge of the Sea." His next work, Curse of the moonstone: Murdered and entombed in the standing stones of Orkney, tells of the struggle to save the life of Evie, a trow before the night of the next full moon. His latest work, Malevolent Mists of Eynhallow: Beware, the sea creatures come in the Orkney fog, links the fate of the Fergus family with Finfolk folklore of the North Sea isles.
