About the Author: Mark W. Shaughnessy was in management most of his twenty-five year career; primarily as senior vice-president of sales and marketing for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Georgia, Jefferson-Pilot and Ceridian where he increased sales by 50% or more in three successive years and received the Chairman's Award which had not been presented in the previous five years. Mark also had full operational P&L responsibility where he brought profitability and growth to a five year division that was losing money and market share. Mark served in Vietnam for eighteen months in a support role while his brother fought in the jungles until injured and resulted in their writing a book, Vietnam Remembered Today, a compare and contrast of brothers in Vietnam at the same time with vastly different experiences and outcomes while also highlighting the key battles and events of the Vietnam Conflict. Both brothers are graduates of Kent State University. Mark is committed to training employees, both when they are hired and when new products or technology is introduced. Too many employees are not fully utilized and productivity is not realized. Sales Secrets Today was borne from Mark's meeting with sales managers and sales staff and determined that each employee must be given the opportunity to achieve success. Listening to managers, sales people and support staff resulted in a complete overhaul of the sales implementation process that increased sales and dramatically decreased paperwork and errors which, in turn, resulted in faster response to the customers requests and more accurate and timerly reporting.
