About the Book

In Robin Meloy Goldsby's musical tales of passion, wild success and gut-wrenching regret, a classical pianist battles middle age and Rachmaninoff; a bebop saxophonist struggles with a varmint sharing her New York City apartment; and a cellist performs Mozart for her mentally ill mother. Filled with the biting humor and razor-sharp honesty familiar to Goldsby's Piano Girl fans, thirteen sparkling fictional stories illuminate the not-so-public lives of musicians. Fragile, feisty, courageous, but sometimes just plain world-weary, Goldsby's unbreakable protagonists push aside little injustices, dodge the slings and arrows of their tone-deaf neighbors, and keep playing the music they love.
About the Author: Robin Meloy Goldsby is the author of Piano Girl: A Memoir; Rhythm: A Novel; and Waltz of the Asparagus People: The Further Adventures of Piano Girl. Goldsby's career as a musician has taken her from roadside dives to posh New York City venues and exclusive resorts, and on to the European castles, grand hotels, and concert stages where she now performs. Robin has seven solo piano recordings to her name-Twilight; Somewhere in Time; Songs from the Castle; Waltz of the Asparagus People; Magnolia; December; and Piano del Sol-and has appeared in the USA on National Public Radio's All Things Considered and Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. Robin is a Steinway Artist. Robin often serves as a cultural ambassador for European organizations dedicated to transatlantic relations. In July 2012, she performed for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt at the Eric Warburg Awards, sponsored by Atlantik Brücke, e.V (Berlin). She has presented her reading/concert program for numerous U.S. Consulates in Europe; for Amerika Haus, e.V. NRW; for Steinway in New York, Berlin, Oslo, Düsseldorf, and Vienna; and for the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) in Marrakesh, Vilnius, Rome, Stockholm, Paris, The Hague, Hamburg, and Dublin. Goldsby's one-woman performance includes stories from her books along with her solo piano compositions. Ms. Goldsby is the author, composer, and producer of Hobo and the Forest Fairies, a musical for children recorded by the WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) in Germany. As a lyricist Goldsby has penned songs for Till Brönner, Curtis Stigers, Jeff Cascaro, Jessica Gall, Robert Matt, and Peter Fessler. In 2010 her collaboration with singer/composer Joyce Moreno, Slow Music, received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Brazilian Album. Robin currently lives outside of Cologne, Germany, with her husband-jazz bassist John Goldsby. You can visit Robin Meloy Goldsby's web page at www.goldsby.de.
