About the Book
The book "Manual of Freshwater Biota" deals with the general organization and taxonomy of common flora and Fauna of Indian Freshwaters belonging to Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, chrysophyta, Phrrophyta, Macropydrophytes, Testaceous Rhizopoda, ciliates, Rotifer, Cladocera, Aquatic insects – Spring tails, Mayflies, Dragon flies, Damsel flies, Stone flies, Grasshoppers, Locusts, Crickets, True bugs, Lace wings, Alder flies, Beetles, Butterflies and Moths, True flies, Bees, Wasps and Ants; Mollusca, Fishes and Birds. This book is the outcome of researches done by the authors and their school in the field as well as in th laboratory for more than three decades. This is the up-to-date and comprehensive compilations on freshwater biota that facilitates in-depth understanding of the taxonomy, biology, ecology, phonology, distribution and behavior of the aquatic plants and animals. Identification of periphyton, benthos, phytoplankton, macro hydrophytes zooplankton, macroinvertabrates, fishes and birds are precisely done which will be useful for Post-graduate, M.Phil, Ph.D. and professional courses in biology, hydrology, limnology, fishery technology, pollution abatement strategies, bio-indicator methods in assessing environmental quality, public health and hygiene, irrigation and recreational activities, All identified specimens have been depicted by diagrams and photographs. The book provides keys and illustrations to aid in the identification of freshwater plants and animals in field conditions. We hope and trust the present book will become an indispensable source of useful information on freshwater biota for all persons interested in the study of the structure and function of the inland water bodies.About the AuthorJayashreee Datta Munshi, is professor of Botany in the University Department of Botany, T.M.
