About the Author: The writer grew up under the ruler of Chinese dictator Mao Zedong. As offspring of landowner and being brainwashed, she thought people like her ancestors were responsible for the destitution of poor peasants. So during her whole childhood she felt shameful and guilty. Before Mao died, she stood no chance to go to college. Life was hopeless. After Mao died, varies of obstacles were on her way to college. Life was very challenging. With pile of unanswered questions, and a big hole inside to fill, she didn't deem being a high school teacher after college was the last stop in her pursue. After three years on the teaching job, she headed for America, where she spent decades searching for answers. As she dug to the bottom, this book was born.
