Upon returning home from Greece with a broken heart, Isis' hunger for human flesh is stronger than ever. Her mutation into Creatura is all but over when she receives the shock of her life. She's pregnant. But she's hesitant to face David, the love of her life, after betraying him with his best friend Eros, who subsequently shows up at her front door to collect on the arrangement they'd made in Greece--to marry.
When Eros finds out she's pregnant, he releases her of their pact, but asks her to contact David with the news of her pregnancy. After contemplating the idea, Isis decides to do just that, but she's taken by surprise when David tells her he's engaged. Distraught, Isis leaves the estate. On her drive out of the property, she's attacked by demons. Barely escaping their clutches, she returns to the estate on foot, where David dives into action and to her rescue.
David calls his parents to discuss the situation and to tell them the demons have found Isis. David's father reveals the reason the demons are after Isis. She is the Marker of Hope as foretold in their prophecy, and the child she will bear will be the first of a new, evolved human species who will change the world for the better... and the demons want to tear the unborn child from Isis' womb to avoid the change.
Soon, the entire Chios family is reunited at the estate to protect Isis, including Galilea, Isis's new best friend and protector, and Dr. Gunn and his wife, previously employed by the Chioses to treat Isis and David's condition. But Isis never expected her biological father, Samuel, to knock on her door.
After another demon attacks, Galilea introduces Isis to Frederick, leader of the rebel deity army. Frederick is adamant in his efforts to convince Isis to lead the army into war against the Council and demons. But Isis doubts her ability to do so. Is she truly the Marker of Hope everyone believes her to be, or will she lose the battle to her starving inner beast?
