About the Book

"Marla" is a realistic, sensitive, tragic, yet humanely told life story of a Brown Swiss dairy cow with appreciation and recognition of the relationship between farmer/rancher and the animals in their care. Though some liberties have been necessarily taken, the story is told from the cow's perceptive much like Anna Sewell's story of "Black Beauty" a horse--loved, then abused and later rescued and Richard Adams' portrayal of the journey of a colony of rabbits in "Watership Down". Those classics sold over 500,000 copies. Years later, new generations, still buy and read these books. Whether human or animal, one's surroundings and circumstances effect development, personality, soul, and heart. It is the authors' hope that enlightenment regarding cows may spark wisdom and nurture kindness toward all creatures.
About the Author: Diana R. Wright, was uprooted at the age of ten when her father hustled a reluctant wife and five children in pursuit of his dream to be a Minnesota dairy farmer. The harsh farm life, weather and family circumstances led Diana to bond deeply with her bovine charges. Her involvement in youth 4-H included exhibiting and demonstrations emphasizing care and good husbandry. She has spent a lifetime studying cow behaviors, has a degree in Biological Science and is a certified AI technician. She advocates that all beings have feelings and need nurturing. They deserve "creature comforts." "Marla" is Diana's second book. To know more about this author read "Too Damn Dumb to Think" a memoir published by Bedazzled Ink Publishing, receiving a Rainbow Award Honorable Mention, and available through Amazon. Rita J. Cayou, was fascinated by cows from an early age. She had "dairying" relatives and the placidity she experienced in those creatures gave them a special place in her heart. At eighteen she got a job wrangling horses and helping with a small herd of beef cattle. Years later she moved to Elbert, Colorado and for the next 18 years, she and her family were involved in 4-H, raising both beef and dairy cattle. For years she hand-milked providing fresh milk to her family. Owning neighboring ranches in Elbert for a time, Diana & Rita shared experiences and wisdom regarding their charges. Hence the collaboration on this book.
