About the Book

Who were the Maya? What motivated them to create ethereal pyramids and intricate calendars? Is December 21, 2012 a paradigm shift or simply resetting the clock? Author Jeanine Kitchel brings her knowledge as a dedicated Mayaphile to light after a thorough investigation of both sides of the spectrum. Her research gives competing views from Maya scholars and the new age 2012ologists. Maya 2012 Revealed explains how we're even able to know that an "end" date was written in Maya glyphs due to the recent breakthrough in the Maya code. The book explains the Maya calendar system, details the Maya's fixation on the night sky and the Milky Way. It touches on Maya writing and hieroglyphics, the abandonment and collapse of the classic sites, and ends with the prophecy found at Tortuguero in Tabasco, Mexico. Rather than textbook examples of what 2012 means, Kitchel shares her findings in the straightforward style her readers have come to love.
About the Author: Jeanine Kitchel has a Bachelor of Science in journalism and has been writing for publications for the past 30 years in Northern California and Mexico. Early on she wrote for The Miami Herald, three Mexico City papers and Fodor's Travel Guide. As time progressed, she contributed to numerous websites that detail life and travel in Mexico and Central America. Kitchel, who has traveled extensively in Mexico, Central and South America, lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area in publishing and sales until 1997 when her love for Mexico led her to a relaxed lifestyle in a small fishing village, Puerto Morelos, Mexico, south of Cancun. Her love of books prompted her to open a bookstore in Puerto Morelos. In 2003 Kitchel wrote a travel memoir, Where the Sky is Born: Living in the Land of the Maya. It tells how she and her husband bought land, built their house in Puerto Morelos and settled into Mexico life. Kitchel's new book, Maya 2012 Revealed, Demystifying the Prophecy, sets a realistic tone for the 2102 end date debate and clears up all speculation on December 21, 2012.
