About the Book

Marine Corps Major Amos Mead, a lawyer by education, is recruited as an Intelligence Agent in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in early 1943. After serving in England against the Nazis and a mission to protect new secret radar used by the Army Air Corps, he is now on a mission under direct orders of the president to assess intelligence operations conducting operations against the Empire of Japan in the China/Burma/India Theater of Operations in southeast Asia. Known only to a few of his team, he is also tasked with seeking out a powerful Asian leader and investigate the possibility that the Vice President of the United States is involved in private, secret negotiations with Vietnamese Communists for a post-war alliance. En route to his assignment, unexpected life-threatening events befall Mead's team. The mission takes on a new and deadly urgency-survival. Mead and the team are forced onto a trek in enemy infested jungle that will test the limits of mental toughness and physical endurance. The action is intense, the outcome not predictable.
About the Author: Three plus decades of teaching and consulting on behavior and motivation, covering four continents in his travels, have shaped Tom Gauthier's perspectives of both a sense of place and the human condition that drive the core of his stories. Tom holds an MBA degree and a Doctorate in Psychology, and has been writing treatise, textbooks, and professional journals for decades. After retiring in 2000 he took up the serious study of crafting novels under the tutelage of mystery writer Kris Franklin. Tom has four novels: Code Name: ORION'S EYE and DIE LISTE: Revenge on the Black Sun published by Patriot Media, Inc., Florida., both set in World War II and based on historical events; and MEAD'S TREK and FORCE THREE RISES, published by TMA Books, Reno, NV. These books are part of a series called Amos Mead Adventures. His fifth novel, A Voyage Beyond Reason, chronicles the solo kayak voyage adventure of Benjamin Wade (later of CBS TV fame in the Survivor-Tocantins and 2010 All Star series.) This novel won an award for Literary Fiction in 2009 from Writers Digest. Tom has also written a unit history of a unique WWII US Army Air Corps unit based on the memoirs and letters of the men themselves: The Saga of the 1st Fighter Control Squadron. Adding to the experience Tom has produced a children's book of short stories and verse: Pumpkins to Holly. With more in the works to be published by ToMar Associates Publishing, Reno, Nevada. Tom Gauthier lives in Reno with his wife of 42 years, Marlene. www.tomgauthier.com
