Ce volume de Scripta minora reunit l'ensemble des articles scientifiques de Jacques Jouanna (Nancy, 27 mai 1935), membre de l'Institut (AIBL) et professeur emerite de litterature et de civilisation grecques a la Sorbonne, a savoir pres de 250 contributions ecrites essentiellement en francais, mais aussi en anglais et en italien, parues en plus de soixante annees de carriere (1961-2023). Il met a la portee du public lettre comme des specialistes cette oeuvre immense et magistrale, caracterisee par une profonde unite organique, autour de deux genres litteraires principaux, la medecine et la tragedie, qui illustrent tous deux la periode de naissance et d'epanouissement de la pensee et des arts grecs qu'a ete le siecle de Pericles. D'une part, l'oeuvre attribuee a Hippocrate de Cos, constituee d'une soixantaine de traites medicaux, demeure, par son art de l'observation et la profondeur de son humanisme, un modele pour le medecin; elle est aussi l'un des monuments les plus riches et les plus impressionnants de l'eveil de l'esprit scientifique en Grece et dans le monde occidental. Un nombre eleve d'articles traitent de la paternite, transmission, structure, langue, style ou encore doctrine, des ecrits mis sous le nom de celui qui passe pour etre le pere de la medecine, ainsi que de la posterite de l'hippocratisme, a laquelle Jacques Jouanna a toujours ete tres attentif. D'autre part, les contributions de l'academicien francais permettent de lire d'un oeil neuf, de penetrer et d'analyser avec une finesse inegalee, la production theatrale, d'une richesse inepuisable, des trois Tragiques majeurs Eschyle, Sophocle et Euripide, tout en affrontant les problemes cruciaux, notamment de representation, qu'elle pose. A cote de ces deux genres, un petit groupe de textes est relatif a l'hellenisme en France du XIXe siecle a nos jours. Afin de faciliter la consultation et l'utilisation du volume, il a ete choisi non seulement d'inserer la pagination originelle dans la marge de droite de tous les articles qui sont classes par ordre chronologique, et, pour les renvois internes, d'ajouter systematiquement le renvoi a la nouvelle pagination, mais aussi de le completer d'un precieux index des mots grecs qui sont discutes. Melant idealement des articles de specialisation aux travaux de synthese, ce volume forme le complement indispensable des editions critiques de Jacques Jouanna, ainsi que de ses biographies monumentales d'Hippocrate (ed. mise a jour, 2017) et de Sophocle (2007). Aboutissement d'une vie d'enseignement et de recherche, il constitue aussi une excellente introduction a l'histoire de la medecine et de la tragedie anciennes, et, plus generalement, a la philologie et a l'histoire de la langue grecque, par l'un des meilleurs hellenistes de notre temps.
