Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Das Thema Medienerziehung im Kindergarten gewinnt vor dem Hintergrund der fortschreitenden Mediatisierung kindlicher Lebenswelten zunehmend an Bedeutung. Neue und neueste Medien spielen heute bereits im Leben kleiner Kinder eine wesentliche Rolle und fungieren insofern als wichtige Sozialisationsinstanz. Diese Entwicklung bringt für nahezu alle gesellschaftlichen Bereiche Konsequenzen von erheblicher Tragweite mit sich und tangiert in besonderem Maße das Gebiet der vorschulischen Erziehung. Unter dem Druck aktueller bildungspolitischer Debatten im Anschluss an die PISA-Studie oder die DELPHI-Befragung wird der Bildungsauftrag des Kindergartens neu diskutiert, wobei auch der vielzitierte Begriff „Medienkompetenz" verstärkt an Bedeutung gewinnt. Der kompetente Umgang mit den alle Lebensbereiche durchdringenden Medien wird - neben anderen Förderungsbereichen - als basale Kulturtechnik verstanden, die schon früh erlernt werden muss. Jedoch sind nicht nur Bildungsinhalte Teil der gegenwärtig geführten Diskussion. Auch das periodisch wiederkehrende Thema der Qualifizierung des pädagogischen Fachpersonals wird einmal mehr vehement diskutiert und ist als Schlüsselthema der Qualitätsdebatte zu bezeichnen. Vor dem Hintergrund gesamtgesellschaftlicher Veränderungen und damit gestiegener Anforderungen an den Elementarbereich wird eine Anhebung des Ausbildungsniveaus und eine weitere Professionalisierung des Berufsbildes gefordert. In diesem Zusammenhang gewinnt die Fortbildung pädagogischer Fachkräfte einen neuen Stellenwert, erhofft man sich doch von dieser Form beruflicher Bildung eine schnelle Kompensation vorhandener qualifikatorischer Defizite. Da Wirkung, Qualität und Erfolg berufsbegleitender Fortbildung jedoch systematisch analysiert und beurteilt werden müssen, erweist sich die Beforschung solcher Bildungsangebote als wichtiges Aufgabenfeld von Evaluation.
