Aufgrund neuerer Datenerhebungen hat fast ein Fünftel der Bevölkerung einen Migrationshintergrund. An den Schulen zeigt sich das in der multiethnischen Schülerschaft. Ein großer Teil der Schüler und Schülerinnen wächst mit zwei oder mehr Sprachen auf und verfügt bei Schuleintritt über sprachliche Kompetenzen, die für die jeweilige Sprache unterschiedlich ausgeprägt und entwickelt sind. Ausreichende Kenntnisse in der Unterrichtssprache sind dabei für den Schulerfolg entscheidend. Für Kinder mit Deutsch als Zweitsprache werden in dem Zusammenhang häufig Probleme im Umgang mit konzeptioneller Schriftlichkeit, die sich z.B. durch Schwierigkeiten im Leseverstehen äußern, genannt. Dies hat auch Auswirkungen auf die Leistungen im Fachunterricht. Eine Förderung dieser Kinder findet entweder integriert in den Schulalltag, etwa durch zusätzlichen DaZ-Unterricht, oder häufig auch außerschulisch in Form von Nachmittagsangeboten statt. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit der reguläre Deutschunterricht dem besonderen sprachlichen Förderbedarf dieser Schüler und Schülerinnen Rechnung tragen kann. Dazu werden allgemeine und DaZ-spezifische Lernziele reflektiert, Überlegungen zu den Lernvoraussetzungen und didaktisch-methodische Erwägungen angestellt. Diese sind zum einen Grundlage zur Entwicklung von Konzepten für eine angemessene sprachliche Förderung dieser Kinder, gehören zum anderen aber auch zu jeder praktischen Unterrichtsvorbereitung. Um diese grundlegenden Überlegungen zu konkretisieren, wird das Sprachbuch als traditionelles Unterrichtsmedium des Deutschunterrichts im Hinblick auf die Lernbedingungen in sprachlich heterogenen Klassen untersucht.
