About the Book

In Volume One, new and existing Dear Readers will find there's updates galore in many chapter stories, (including a doozy that happened in "Lily Lake, Unrequited Love!") plus new chapters and more families' and historical pictures of the Upper Crystal Valley! The main feedback after the original book's 2009 printing was how much readers loved all the personal family and historical photos. And one of many benefits of self-publishing: ) is the maneuverability for changes, so there's a'plenty! Even if purchasing for the second time, you will see that it's worth it! Volume Two is ALL about the Crystal River's main settlement hub-Carbondale. We pick up our adventure at the very first Crystal River Valley settler's home- still a "Sustainable Setting Ranch" today. In it's 22 chapters, we find out the "best-kept" secret as to why Carbondale is rated the coolest small town in Western Colorado!
About the Author: Charlotte has always loved to hear old-timers tell stories. Even if her dad said, "Your Uncle Joe's stories are all bull," on his next visit she would say "Tell me another bull story, Uncle Joe." In this book, Charlotte has gone to visit with old-timers and shares their stories about life and places in the Crystal River Valley, going back six-seven generations. "Born in Oklahoma but conceived in Texas!" is the reason Charlotte Graham loves to tell jokes at Texans' expense in Memoirs, Volume One. Well, that and the fact that she spent most of her childhood at church schools in Texas and Oklahoma, and boarding school in a remote section of Arkansas. As you can imagine, this exceptional educational experience gave her many stories and fed her imagination. After school, Charlotte realized she needed a change of view and she headed west in a metallic green '63 Thunderbird. She went as far as she could, the beaches of Southern California, and stayed for 20 years. During that time she ghost wrote for the National Institutes of Health publication of James Y.P. Chen, M.D., first Chinese acupuncturist in U.S., magazine editor, PR, and co-built the third largest independent auto leasing business in Southern California. Charlotte earned her Master's degree in Entrepreneurial and Small Business Administration at the University of Hard Knocks. On a trip with her husband, they came to Marble, Colorado over McClure Pass in a motorhome for a weekend visit. They loved it so much they ended up staying for 18 years. Of course, Charlotte couldn't sit still so she served on several local historic society boards, started two Marble newspapers, created and organized a community non-profit economic development organization. Whether marketing projects, business plans or grants; writing has been an untamed passion she has expressed through a lifetime of professional venues. She has now written her first set of local history books about the Crystal River Valley, and the first ever for Carbondale! Charlotte has two other writing projects in the pipeline-a novel called "Conjecture" about mayhem and murder in a remote mountain community and a memoir about Northern Ute elder, Clifford Duncan due out in 2016-2017. Graham lives full-time in the Crystal River Valley with her husband, Doug Whitney.
