About the Book

It's one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the middle of WWII. Ben convinces his mother to sign papers so he can enlist in the Army Air Corps at the tender age of 17, and so begins a lifetime of intriguing experiences and almost unbelievable stories. Join Ben Ostrofsky as he describes the highlights of becoming an engineer during the golden age of technology and the impact one man can have on his profession. Memoirs of an Engineer is a must read for anyone who is, or has known, an engineer. You'll be surprised at what a wild ride it can be.
About the Author: Ben Ostrofsky is a retired engineer, professor, and veteran. He began his career by enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941 at the age of 17. The son of immigrants who survived the depression of the 1930's, Ben worked to save enough money for college, which eventually led to a PhD in Engineering. In between, he worked in the aerospace industry in flight test, advanced design, and systems engineering. Ben transferred his expertise to academia where he became a professor, spending 34 years in both engineering and business. He retired as a Professor with a joint appointment in both the College of Business and the College of Engineering at the University of Houston. At one point during his tenure at UH, he contributed the most research funding of any professor at the time. The Houston City Council recognized him for this achievement. Ben was the recipient of many honors and awards. He was awarded admission to the prestigious engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, in 1987. He was most proud of receiving the triple awards from the Society of Logistics Engineers: The Armitage Medal for achievement in logistics publication, The Eccles Medal for contribution to logistics education and the Founders Medal for lifetime contributions to logistics, something only a few professionals have ever achieved.
