Der neo-liberale Umbau der modernen Gesellschaft hat das "Normalarbeitsv- hältnis" mit seinen Erwartungen der Arbeitnehmer/innen an die Fürsorge ihrer Arbeitgeber nachhaltig erschüttert. Zwar ist dieses Verhältnis, wie Frau Daser zeigt, aufs Ganze gesehen von Anfang an mehr eine regulative Idee als empi- sche Wirklichkeit, als solche aber wirkmächtig, weil sie einen berechtigten Le- timationsanspruch markiert, der einer hemmungslosen Verwertung von Arbei- kraft zu widerstehen verspricht, was zu einer Befriedung des fundamentalen Interessenkonflikts von Arbeit und Kapital beiträgt. In dem Maße nun, wie - ternehmerisches Handeln zu einer Norm aufsteigt, deren Geltungsbereich auch auf Arbeitnehmer ausgreift, was in Konzepten wie dem "Arbeitskraftuntern- mer" zum Ausdruck kommt, wird die Grenze zwischen Arbeitsrolle und Person geschliffen, die eine fordistische Arbeitsorganisation wahrt. Die entsprechenden Stichworte sind "Entgrenzung von Arbeit" und "Subjektivierung von Arbeit". Damit gewinnt der "Geist des Kapitalismus" eine bis dato unerreichte psychische Tiefendimension. Herrschaftsstrategisch gesprochen, soll eine "methodische Lebensführung" durchgesetzt werden, in der die Arbeitnehmer/innen die r- bungslose Transformation von Arbeitskraft in Arbeitsleistung als permanente - existenzielle - Bewährung, euphemistisch als "Herausforderung" deklariert, erleben. Geht Fremdzwang in Selbstzwang, Ausbeutung in Selbstausbeutung über, wird Herrschaft unsichtbar, weil und in dem Maße wie Überlastungen der physischen und psychischen Kräfte als persönliches Versagen attribuiert werden. Dieser Wandel des Sozialcharakters erfolgt zum einen nicht in allen Branchen mit demselben Nachdruck und insofern ungleichzeitig; zum anderen ist längst nicht ausgemacht, wie der "Arbeitskraftunternehmer" seinen Lebensstil verkr- tet und ob er nicht ständig in der Gefahr lebt, als "erschöpftes Selbst" zu enden.
