Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Führung und Personal - Sonstiges, Note: 1,4, Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg, Karlsruhe, früher: Berufsakademie Karlsruhe, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Bevor Odysseus in den trojanischen Krieg zog, überließ er seinen kleinen Sohn Telemachos der Obhut eines Vormundes namens Mentor, dem er die Erziehung seines Sohnes anvertraute. Zehn Jahre dauerte der Krieg, zehn Jahre brauchte Odysseus um nach Hause zu reisen. Als er dann zurückkam, war aus Telemachos unter der Leitung seines Mentors ein Mann geworden. Aus diesem kleinen antiken Sagenschatz leitet sich also der Begriff des Mentors ab und zugleich auch seine wichtigste Interpretation: Der Mentor als Förderer und Berater einer jungen Nachwuchskraft, der das Lernen und das Heranreifen seines Schützlings, des so genannten Mentee, begleitet und lenkt. Diese Form direkter Förderung von ambitionierten, begabten und lernwilligen Nachwuchskräften hat eine lange Tradition. Im Griechenland der Antike gab es die Schulen der Philosophen. Diese vermittelten ihren Protegés ihre Lehre, aber sie waren nicht Lehrer und Pädagogen im heutigen Sinn, vielmehr waren sie waren Vorbilder mit neuen Gedanken. Sie förderten und forderten ihre Schüler durch Diskussionen, Gespräche und Beratungen und schliffen aus einem Rohdiamanten ein Juwel. Im Mittelalter übernahmen Äbte und Äbtissinnen diese Rolle in den Klostergemeinschaften des christlichen Abendlandes, schließlich auch Generäle in der Armee oder Wissenschaftler an den Universitäten. Es wird somit ersichtlich, dass Mentoring keine Erfindung der modernen Management-Psychologie und Betriebspädagogik ist, sondern ein Impuls mit langer Tradition für eine neue, gelebte Unternehmenskultur im 21. Jahrhundert.
