Este libro incluye obras del dramaturgo uruguayo Dino Armas que tratan temas de migración y dictadura, así como ensayos interpretativos escritos por autores provenientes de los campos de la literatura hispanoamericana, el teatro, la psicología y la historia. La compilación también contiene dos entrevistas al dramaturgo. Explorar todo este conjunto de textos es una forma de introducirse en el mundo de Armas para indagar sobre los conflictos humanos locales y universales. Cada una de sus obras nos enfrenta a complejidades humanas que se entrelazan con realidades sociales e históricas para brindar un comentario profundo y auténtico sobre cuestiones relacionadas con la migración y la dictadura.Las obras en esta compilación giran en torno a la migración europea hacia Uruguay durante el siglo XIX y comienzos del XX, y obras que exploran la realidad de las olas migratorias más recientes desde Uruguay hacia Europa, Australia y otros destinos. La primera se dio primordialmente para escapar de los horrores de las guerras y la pobreza en Europa. Las segundas se dieron principalmente por motivos políticos (durante los años de la dictadura militar, 1973 a 1985) y por motivos económicos (en particular, en la década de 1980 y como consecuencia de la crisis de 2002).Esta compilación constituye un escenario compartido de reflexión, análisis, colaboración y afecto hacia el dramaturgo Dino Armas, la herencia cultural hispánica y un acervo multicultural universal.
About the Author: Dr. Gabriela Christie Toletti nació en Montevideo (Uruguay) como Gabriela Toletti Altieri. Es profesora universitaria de español y directora académica de lenguas extranjeras, arte, estudios de comunicación y teatro, filosofía y religión en Tidewater Community College. También es profesora adjunta de literatura y estudios de cultura universal en la Universidad de Old Dominion (EE. UU.). Previamente enseñó español y literatura en la Universidad de Wingate (EE. UU.) e inglés en la Alianza Cultural Uruguay-Estados Unidos (Uruguay). Se ha especializado en las áreas de literatura latinoamericana, teatro hispánico, cultura universal, psicología, pedagogía, desarrollo de programas académicos, enseñanza de español e inglés y traducción español/inglés. Se graduó de profesora de inglés como lengua extranjera en la Alianza Cultural Uruguay-Estados Unidos, de psicóloga clínica en la Universidad de la República (Uruguay), y obtuvo una maestría y un doctorado en Literatura Latinoamericana en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York en Búfalo (EE. UU.). Ha participado en conferencias de literatura como ponente y en entrevistas de televisión y radio sobre asuntos de herencia hispana. Ha escrito artículos, ha traducido obras teatrales y ha recibido becas de investigación literaria. Además ha incursionado en el campo del dibujo. Sus artículos tratan predominantemente temas de migración, opresión, dictadura, identidad cultural y dinámica grupal. Se destaca "El reencuentro de una familia del Río de la Plata," incluido en un libro sobre experiencias de migración. Reside en Norfolk, Virginia (EE.UU.) con su esposo Charles Chuck Cody Christie Jr. y sus mascotas.
