About the Book

"Me gustaría comenzar poniéndote de relieve la relevancia que tiene para el ser humano (en general y, claro está, aunque no lo admitamos, también en concreto, para ¡vos y yo!) la pregunta existencial: ¿cuál es nuestro fin o propósito, nuestro para qué? Sí, hablo de esa pregunta por el sentido de la vida que por sernos tan familiar y por situarnos a todos por igual, doctos y legos, en el más común de los lugares, la incertidumbre, le hemos perdido todo el respeto."

Con estas palabras, Harena comienza el primero de los ensayos cortos que integran la colección de este volumen. Con su habitual tono ameno y sencillo, el autor aborda la importancia de la pregunta por el sentido de la vida, del cual, siguiendo la línea que inaugura Viktor Frankl en El hombre en busca del sentido, depende la auténtica felicidad de todo ser humano. Por su parte, Harena nos remonta a los orígenes de la historia (con el comienzo la escritura) para centrarnos en los mitos egipcios y sumerios, los más antiguos de occidente, y mostrarnos que esos relatos giraban en torno a esta misma cuestión existencial. Desde el comienzo mismo de nuestra civilización, aquellos primeros filósofos, que expresaban sus reflexiones en relatos simbólicos, ya reparaban en que el único antídoto contra una vida desordenada, movida por pasiones e impulsos egoístas, es el descubrimiento de un sentido trascendente que oriente todas nuestras acciones.

Harena continúa por explorar, adentrándose en la filosofía de la mente, el problema de la consciencia humana, puntualmente su naturaleza inmaterial y metafísica. Entre otros temas, nuestro autor aborda la naturaleza infinita de Dios, tal como se la presenta en el término Ein Sof que surge de la cábala; el error de Descartes que yace en el origen a la filosofía moderna; una mirada alternativa sobre las principales posturas que hacen al debate contemporáneo sobre el libre albedrío; el sentido de la vida en Frankl, Aristóteles y Ratzinger; y dos ensayos breves sobre la naturaleza divina: la que expresa su Nombre, por un lado, y la que los nombres que emergen del lenguaje humano intentan aproximar, por el otro.

A modo de bonus track el volumen se cierra con una bella exposición, adentrándonos en el mundo microscópico de la nieve, sobre las limitaciones propias de nuestros sentidos y como nuestro aparato sensorial condiciona la parcialidad con percibimos la realidad.

PARVUS G. HARENA es un incansable investigador y un apasionado por el estudio. Cuenta con tres posgrados y una extensa carrera internacional. Cursó estudios y trabajó en ámbitos multiculturales y lugares tan diversos como Silicon Valley, Múnich, Shanghái y San Pablo, entre otros. Movido por un fuerte interés por la literatura y la filosofía, que lo ha acompañado desde su adolescencia, ingresó a la Universidad Estatal de California (CSU) en San José donde completó su Magíster en Filosofía. Sus escritos giran en torno a la cuestión existencial del ser humano (a su perpetua búsqueda de sentido) desde una perspectiva sintética que integra la ciencia, la filosofía y la teología.
