Martine Le Coz est une romancière française et une artiste, admiratrice de longue date de l'art du Mithila, expression traditionnelle des femmes au Nord de l'Inde, en bordure du Népal. Le premier ouvrage qu'elle leur a récemment consacré après les avoir rencontrées, Mithila, l'honneur des femmes, trouve un prolongement avec ces quarante-deux illustrations des caractères de l'écriture dite Devanagari. L'ensemble est un hommage rendu à l'art du Mithila: à partir de chacune des lettres de l'alphabet s'élabore une image de la vie indienne en restituant son style si particulier. About the Author: Martine Le Coz est née le 13 septembre 1955. Elle vit à Amboise, en Touraine, depuis près de trente ans. Marquée par la rencontre d'Emmanuel Lévinas, d'Aimé Césaire, puis d'Emile Shoufani qu'elle a suivi dans la Marche pour la Paix à Auschwitz en 2003, elle inscrit l'ensemble de son travail dans une perspective fraternelle à travers ses romans en faveur de l'homme noir, des humiliés et des exclus (Céleste, prix Renaudot 2001. Ed. du Rocher). L'interrogation scientifique aiguillonne parfois l'ouverture spirituelle. Le souci premier est celui du lien. Il s'élargit naturellement dans le champ interculturel. Il faut voyager pour mieux rencontrer autrui - en Afrique, au Mali, au Burundi, en Algérie, dans la lumière de l'Emir Abdelkader, puis en Orient, en Inde. Le dessin, qui accompagne l'écriture depuis toujours, lance entre Orient et Occident une passerelle privilégiée. En 2009 a débuté l'illustration d'une Histoire des prophètes selon le Coran (Ed. Albouraq). La rencontre de l'indianiste André Padoux a permis l'accès à la spiritualité indienne. Un engagement de coeur s'est développé depuis auprès des femmes de modeste condition qui pratiquent au nord de l'Inde l'art du Mithilâ (Mithilâ, l'honneur des femmes, 2013. Ed L'Harmattan-Michalon), pour qu'il perdure et qu'elles survivent. Le roman L'Appel des éléphants souligne l'interdépendance des animaux et des hommes sur notre planète en reliant l'Asie et l'Afrique dans une approche universelle.
