Los mitos que sobrevivieron relatan la creación del mundo por parte de los dioses a partir del cadáver de un gigante primigenio, la existencia de los distintos reinos que rodean el universo y diversos cuentos e historias sobre las aventuras de los dioses.


Algunos de estos relatos nórdicos tienen lugar en un universo más bien sombrío, donde las tierras están llenas de nieve interminable, hay veranos sombríos y guerras feroces, mientras que otros describen la ciudad fortificada de los dioses como un lugar resplandeciente lleno de oro y altísimos palacios. ¿Cuál es el escenario cierto? Dado que estos mitos se difundieron originalmente de forma oral y que las pocas fuentes escritas que se conservan carecen de algunas páginas, puede resultar difícil para los lectores curiosos encontrar un relato correcto de las intrigantes leyendas e historias de los dioses nórdicos.
