Zu den bekanntesten zählen TQM, Business Reengineering, Balanced Scorecard und Unternehmenskultur. Sie werden auch als Organisations- und Führungskonzeptionen bzw. Managementmodelle, -theorien, -methoden und -strategien bezeichnet. Für Kritiker versprechen diese Managementkonzeptionen oft mehr als sie halten: Obwohl sie soeben noch als letzter Stand wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis gepriesen wurden, verschwänden viele alsbald wieder. Auch die Anwender der neuen Methoden stehen in der Kritik: "Wenn es im Management darum geht, up to date zu sein, zählt die Vernunft nicht mehr viel." Das Problem liegt darin, dass die Verbreitung von Managementkonzeptionen häufig Mustern folgt, wie sie für Moden typisch sind. Die Wirtschaftspresse prägte die Benennung dieser Konzeptionen als "Managementmoden". Ziel der Arbeit ist es, Managementmoden im Allgemeinen zu analysieren und abschließend zu beurteilen. Im Zuge der Analyse sollen dem Leser umfassende Zusammenhänge ihrer Verbreitung verdeutlicht werden.
