About the Book

"Sabrina's modern take on traditional South Asian dishes and the stories behind them makes an entertaining and tempting book!" - Michel Roux Jr
"Sabrina is the real deal... The delicious flavour combinations, fun playfulness of classic dishes and a genuine love for storytelling and recipe writing makes this a must for any bookshelf." - Ravneet Gill

"Sabrina has produced the most colourful, exciting book I've seen in a long time, coming from the heart. Each recipe is packed with love and vibrancy, and I can't wait to cook from it." - José Pizarro

Modern South Asian Kitchen is a fascinating collection of recipes, encompassing traditional family dishes passed down through generations to contemporary, eclectic recipes that reflect a collaboration between cultures and experiences.

We see the merging of Sabrina's professional career in modern European kitchens unite with her Punjabi heritage, culminating in 90 unique and stunning recipes that are comforting, playful and big on flavor. She pays homage to her mother's most iconic dishes along with personal tributes to dishes her grandmother made. She believes that flavor and enjoyment are imperative--and offers snacks and small plates for entertaining, quick and light meals for midweek meals and encourages the mixing and matching of recipes for feasting and friends--teaching us not to be fearful of our spice cupboard. In her words, she is 'creating new traditions as well as honoring old'. From the Only Dal You'll Ever Need and Cauliflower Cheese Parathas to Punjabi Panzanella and Black Cardamom Custard Tart, these are ingenious, considerately spiced recipes you won't have seen before.

Along with a personal story of her journey, Sabrina also features conversations with eight of her 'sisters' from South Asian heritage, continuing the thread of connecting with your history whilst breaking cultural and culinary boundaries. Modern South Asian Kitchen is a thought-provoking testament to modern South Asian cuisine as well as a joyful celebration of how cooking food brings together communities, families and friends.
About the Author: Sabrina Gidda's early career began in Fashion PR & Marketing before realising that her passion was in food and cooking. Having had no formal training, she began as a stagier at The Dorchester Hotel, London, ran two successful gastro pubs before taking over The Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden and was a finalist for the Roux Scholarship two years in a row. She then ran kitchens in numerous firms in The City as Executive Chef, was head chef at Marylebone's Bernardi's, before becoming the executive chef at AllBright, Mayfair, an all-woman's social club in London. She now runs her own food consultancy, working with hotels and restaurants. Sabrina has enjoyed competing and judging numerous television shows including the BBC's Great British Menu, Celebrity Masterchef, Saturday Kitchen, Back in Time for Dinner, Saturday James Martin, and Sunday Brunch. Her recipes have featured in GQ Magazine, The Mayfair Times, The Sunday Times, and Olive Magazine. She continues to champion women in food, drink and hospitality with an eclectic, global approach to cooking. Sabrina's grandfather was the first Asian man to own a pub in Britain, going on to own four. Her grandmother made amazing pub snacks--samosas and flat kebabs and chutneys--using the British substitutes she found for her missing Indian ingredients. These snacks sold, literally, like hot cakes from the pub and she saved up all her earnings from the sales, enabling her to later purchase two properties! Sabrina's Punjabi heritage and her experience cooking in European restaurants and kitchens has given her a unique ability to add flavour and spice to everday recipes as well as updating traditional dishes from the Indian subcontinent to make them accessible for our busy, modern lives.
