About the Book

Molecular diagnostics are used to identify infectious diseases .Securing the different types of health services, preventive, curative and rehabilitation of the basic necessities of the individual and society is part of the economic and social development, the Ministry of Health before the embargo the country and the terms of reference of modern medical equipment and refurbished medical equipment, such that the health services in the country in all its aspects to the stage of qualitative and quantitative development admittedly many of the specialized agencies and international experts. For example, Iraq was clean and free of cholera; the disease returned and appeared again significantly in 1991. The scarcity of essential drugs and lack of availability of the required quantities led to the deterioration of the situation of citizens suffering from chronic diseases such as sugar and heart disease, hypertension, epilepsy, kidney failure and cancer diseases.The laboratory tests were not no better than drugs, because the lack of laboratory materials and equipment used to conduct those tests and lack of maintenance and sustaining them available because of the acute shortage of spare parts and failing to be delivered to Iraq as well as the lack of diagnostic kits necessary to conduct examinations and laboratory tests, all that reflected negatively on the number of tests performed annually following table shows the percentage decline in the monthly Madal to prepare laboratory tests compared to 1989. About the Author: Prof. Al-Mudhaffar was born on 14 March 1940 in Basra, Iraq. He received early education at Basra High School, and obtained a BSc Hons Degree from the University of Baghdad, Iraq (1959-1960). In 1962 he moved to the University of Virginia Tech., USA, for advanced studies under a merit assistantship awarded by that university, culminating in a PhD (1967). He returned to Iraq and began teaching and research as a Lecturer in the College of Science of the University of Basra. He became Assistant Professor (1971), and full Professor of Biochemistry (1979) at the University of Baghdad, Iraq. He is one of the most senior Biochemists of Iraq, and has played an important role in promoting in that country Biochemistry, Molecular Biotechnology research and related subjects. He is primarily responsible for the initiation and establishment of many scientific and bilateral educational programmes with scientific organizations and laboratories in the advanced world and become active member of Iraqi academy of science (almajma alilmi ) in 1996. Prof. Al-Mudhaffar has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in various branches of Biochemistry at the Universities of Basra and Baghdad for over 35 years (1968-2003). He has supervised 50 PhDs and 100 MSc students in related fields, and published more than 250 scientific papers. He also has 50 inventions to his credit.His guidance and active participation in the promotion of scientific activities has resulted in the formation of a sound base for the growth of the scientific culture in the country.He was awarded several prizes and medals for his activities in both science and culture. Prof. Al-Mudhaffar was elected as a Fellow of the IAS in 2000 and vice chairman of Iraqi national academy of science in 2004and also was democratically elected president of Baghdad university in 2003.Then was appointed minister of education in June 2004, having previously served as deputy in the ministry.Then in June 2005 he was chosen minister of higher education.
