Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2023 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Amerika, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit beleuchtet das konspirationistische Denken in den USA, um zu erkennen, wie die Verbreitung und der Glaube an Verschwörungstheorien tief in der Kultur der Amerikaner verwurzelt sind. In den Annalen der Menschheitsgeschichte leuchtet die Mondlandung als eine der erhabensten Leistungen. Doch wie das nächtliche Himmelslicht selbst, das in seinen Schatten und Reflexionen Mythen und Geheimnisse birgt, so ist auch die Mondlandung nicht frei von Kontroversen und Zweifeln. Gemäß Umfragen hegen bis zu 6% der Amerikaner Zweifel daran, dass die Apollo-11-Astronauten jemals auf dem Mond gelandet sind. Zudem glauben knapp ein Viertel (24%) der Amerikaner, dass die Regierung Informationen über die Mondlandung sogar verschweigt. Selbst im Angesicht einer möglichen erneuten Mondlandung im Jahr 2025, die für die meisten Menschen als zweiter historischer Meilenstein betrachtet wird, besteht für Verschwörungstheoretiker wahrscheinlich die Annahme, dass es sich erneut um einen Schwindel handelt. Diese Auffassungen verweisen auf tieferliegende Faktoren im US-amerikanischen Gesellschaftsgefüge. Das Hauptziel dieser Arbeit ist nicht die Bestätigung oder Widerlegung der Mondlandung von 1969. Vielmehr soll im historischen Kontext die Methodik hinter der anhaltenden Präsenz der Mondlandungsverschwörung beleuchtet und der fruchtbare Boden für derartige Denkweisen im US-amerikanischen Kontext erläutert werden. Infolgedessen erfolgt im ersten Schritt die Begriffsbestimmung von Verschwörungstheorien und Konspirationismus mit Fokus auf den Puritanismus, gefolgt vom Blick auf das Space Race und den Wendepunkt im Jahr 1969. Dabei sollen die gesellschaftlichen Wahrnehmungen sowohl seitens der UdSSR als auch der USA analysiert werden.
