About the Book

### Published in 2014, but just now released in 2018, after almost four (4) years of additional validation of the information in the book out in the real world. Released with confidence! ### People and their animal companions come in all forms and sizes, but anyone who has owned or been owned by a companion parrot, knows that they have both a very special friend, and that friend has its own special needs to survive in this crazy human existence of ours. The Parrot Monk (aka John Fisher) spent 7 years gathering up all the best and most accurate information he could find related specifically to the health and safety of companion parrots. He stressed over the perfection of every detail, and made sure that he ran his information by as many avian veterinarians, breeders, behaviorists, and conservationists that he could, as part of the research process. He was fortunate enough to be able to contract with Rebecca K. O'Connor, one of the countries leading Authors, Trainers and Conservationists in the world of avian species and specfically raptors, to review and edit the book for accuracy of information. Then additionally, the book was edited one final time for simplicity and clarity of information by well known author, editor and freelance writer Kristine M. Smith. Through all these efforts, it is the hope of the author, that Companion Parrot and Pet Bird Owners will have one simple and straight forward resource to reference to ensure the absolute best in Companion Parrot health and safety, through the use of the "Parrot Monk's Guide to Companion Parrot Health & Safety", and that this information will be a helpful and thoughtful resource used by many for years to come. Let us do our best to show love and respect to all of our feathered friends and how much they mean to us, by keeping them healthy and safe.
About the Author: The "Parrot Monk" aka John Fisher, began his fascination with birds while in Alaska as a young boy, and was amazed at the almost stuff animal like look of Puffins. At the age of 10 he was working with Dove's in his magic act and began his first efforts into breeding. Throughout his life he studied birds, and volunteered helping rescue birds that were injured as part of specialized avian programs. Members of his extended family had parrots, which he became enthralled with the idea of working African Greys, Cockatoos and Macaws, as well as, learning all he could about raptors and dreaming of being a falconer one day. As life would have it though the "Parrot Monk" (a name given to him by veterinarian and companion bird owners that worked with John over the years), ended up moving in the direction of companion parrots, in the breeding, raising and training of these amazing birds. The Parrot Monk, now in his 50's has bred dozens of different species of psittacines, raised hundreds of these amazing creatures to be companion friends to various human families, and worked has a behaviorist both professionally and semi-professionally with various groups, shelters and animal clinics. He has spent years working with and learning from both local Veterinarians and well known Avian Veterinarians around the United Stated, on avian medicine and the care of these wonderful creatures. Additionally, John has trained and been certified as an avian specialist, has completed training though a variety of avian and behavioral organizations, and also with the American Federation of Aviculture. John was in the past also very involved in the Nationwide Parrot Place Organization, and created the standards and concept of "Educating, Nurturing & Developing - People & Parrots" as an approach to Companion Parrot care and training for the wonderful humans who choose to share their lives with these amazing creatures.
