Warum das Mordmotiv in Büchners Woyzeck-Fragment diskutieren? Scheint das nicht auf Anhieb klar? Wahnsinn in Verbindung mit Eifersucht? Ganz und gar nicht. Diese Kombination kann nämlich die dramaturgische Ausgestaltung und Funktion des Mordkomplexes - insbesondere im Kontext des vermeintlichen Sozialdramas - nicht erklären. Auch der Grund des Wahnsinns bleibt in der gängigen Rezeption schleierhaft und entsprechend umstritten, die übliche hermeneutische Notlösung ist der als Prämisse gesetzte, so aber nicht statthafte historische Verortung, die auf den eigentlich zu unterstellenden und zu suchenden intrinsischen Zusammenhang von Mordmotiv und Wahnsinn verzichtet. Kaum erklärbar aus dieser Perspektive: Die rituelle Einleitung der Tat mit anschließender Hinrichtung. Sie erfolgt nicht im Affekt sondern ist vorsätzlich geplant. Der Mordkomplex nimmt etwa ein Drittel des ersten Handschriftenentwurfs ein. Damit steht die Ausführung dessen, was die Stimme aus dem Boden fordert, im Mittelpunkt der Handlung. Außerdem entfallen dort die beiden allerseits zu dramaturgischen Hauptfiguren hochstilisierten Hauptmann und Doktor, d.h. der Menschenversuch und die Arbeitsüberlastung. Das eigentliche Mordmotiv findet sich in Maries in exponiertester Situation ausgerufener, wörtlich verstandener Satz: "Das Kind gibt mir einen Stich ins Herz." Es handelt sich um eine Antizipation, in allernächster Umgebung fällt das Stichwort "morgen". Woyzeck wird durchgehend mit dem Begriff "Stechen" assoziiert, zudem kauft er in der Szene vorher völlig überflüssigerweise ein Messer. Eine Argumentation dahingehend, dass Büchner der Satz unbeabsichtigt bzw. hermeneutisch unerheblich oder irreführend herausgerutscht sei, ist kaum vorstellbar. Ein Indiz dafür ist, dass die verschiedenen Deutungsansätze stillschweigend darüber hinweggehen.
