Einleitung Im Jahre 1317 war es Jurij Danilovič, der sich als erster Moskauer Fürst, die Gunst der Tataren sichern konnte und so einen Jarlyg ausgestellt bekam, der ihn als Großfürst legitimierte. Der Jarlyg war ein Gnadenbrief, den der Chan einem russischen Fürsten ausstellte. Da die politische Macht seit dem Einfall der Mongolen (von den Russen Tataren genannt) beim Chan, dem Führer der Goldenen Horde lag, bedeutete dieser Jarlyg eine Sonderstellung gegenüber den anderen russischen Fürstentümern. Trotz zahlreicher Konkurrenten, bekam auch Jurijs Nachfolger Ivan I. erneut das Vertrauen des Chans ausgesprochen. Seinen Beinamen Kalita (der Geldbeutel) hatte sich Ivan I. nicht umsonst verdient, verstand er es doch, das Recht des Großfürsten, Steuern einzutreiben, für seinen eigenen Machtzuwachs zu nutzen. Während der Herrschaft von Ivans Sohn Simeon erwuchs in Litauen ein neuer mächtiger Konkurrent. Doch der neue Großfürst Simeon konnte die Gefahr 1350 durch einen Sieg gegen den litauischen Großfürsten Algridas zunächst bannen. Obwohl sich Moskau so einen Vorsprung gegenüber seinen Konkurrenten um die Großfürstenwürde, vor allem Tveŕ erarbeiten konnte, sah es nach dem Tod von Simeons Nachfolger Ivan II. zunächst so aus, als könnte sich das Blatt wieder wenden. Ivan II., genannt der Schöne, hatte nur zwei minderjährige Söhne hinterlassen. Der jüngere von beiden, ebenfalls mit dem Namen Ivan, starb bereits 1364, der ältere jedoch, mit dem Namen Dmitrij, sollte zu einem der bedeutendsten frühen Herrscher in Moskau werden. Hatten sich Dmitrijs Vorgänger vor allem durch Gunstbeweise beim Chan in der innerrussischen Hierarchie nach oben geschoben, so zeichnete sich Dmitrijs Machtanstieg auch durch eine eigenständige, nicht
