Lance Wright never expected to become district attorney for Madre County. It was nearly a sure thing that the rampant corruption in the California county would prevent the morally upright Lance from winning the election. In a shocking turn of events, Lance's clean campaign wins the day. While Lance's wife, Sandy, and sons, Brian and Gabe, are thrilled, Lance knows that this isn't entirely good news. About the Author: Phil Lowe used his personal experience as the inspiration for his crime thriller. In 1982 Lowe won a contested election for the office of District Attorney of Sierra County, California. The community relies on gold mining and logging as its two top industries and contains many colorful citizens determined to find a jackpot out in the wilderness.
While serving as District Attorney, Lowe lived with his wife, Nancy, and their two sons in the tiny gold rush town of Downieville, California-population 350.
Unlike his protagonist, Lowe got along well with the hardworking local law enforcement officers. He considers himself lucky to have met so many colleagues who deeply cared about their jobs and the community.
