Müsste sich die Beschäftigung damit nicht eher nachteilig auf deren Entwicklung auswirken? Fakt ist, dass sich laut einer Studie aus dem Jahr 2013 etwa drei Viertel der 15- bis 29-jährigen Deutschen einer Jugendszene zugehörig fühlen (tfactory 2013). Die Heavy-Metal-Szene zählt dabei zu den zahlenmäßig am stärksten vertretenen Szenen. Wäre eine so hohe Beteiligung daran überhaupt möglich, wenn Szenen schädlich für deren "Mitglieder" wären? Jugendszenen fallen häufig negativ auf. Besonders die Heavy-Metal-Szene kann auf den ersten Blick wie ein Haufen betrunkener und pöbelnder Langhaariger erscheinen. Bei genauerer Beschäftigung mit der Szene stellen sich diese Vorurteile jedoch oft als unbegründet heraus. Jugendszenen scheinen eine immer größere Rolle im Leben Jugendlicher einzunehmen, weshalb es wichtig erscheint, zu untersuchen, wie sich diese auf die Heranwachsenden auswirken. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Bedeutung von Musik und musikalischen Jugendszenen, sowie deren Einfluss auf die Entwicklung und Sozialisation Jugendlicher darzustellen. Es soll außerdem gezeigt werden, dass das schlechte Bild, das viele Menschen von Heavy Metal und Fans des Genres haben, nicht ganz der Wahrheit entspricht. Aus pädagogischer Sicht ist die Behandlung dieses Themas als relevant anzusehen, da besonders in der Jugendarbeit das Wissen darüber, wie Jugendliche Musik verwenden und wie Musik dazu verwendet werden kann, Jugendliche zu erreichen, von Vorteil ist.
