About the Book

My father, John Randall Daniel (Bob) Braham was the most decorated British Commonwealth fighter pilot of the Second World War and the fifth ranked Commonwealth air ace of the war. He was, in addition, the top Allied air ace flying twin-engined aircraft, and among the highest scoring Allied night fighter aces. Despite these distinctions, he remains relatively unknown, largely due to his personal antipathy with publicity. This small publication follows my father's brief life from his early upbringing; through his distinguished wartime career; to his growing disillusionment with post-war Britain; his move to Canada and his service with the RCAF; and finally, his short post-service life. This is his story as a pilot, father and husband who pursued every aspect of his life with a mixture of ruthless efficiency, youthful enthusiasm, and a firm sense of duty, as perceived by his eldest son. It is based on available selected documentation, personal observation and fond memories.
About the Author: Capt (N) (Ret'd) Michael Braham Mike was born in England in 1942 and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1952. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1987 in the rank of Captain (Navy). He then assumed responsibility for civil national emergency preparedness planning with Emergency Preparedness Canada until 1999. Following his time with Emergency Preparedness Canada he completed his paid working career as Director of Occupational Health and Safety for the Department of National Defence.
