Einsam, liebesunfähig und zugleich verwöhnt. Dies sind einige der Vorurteile, die Einzelkindern anhaften. Bereits der Begriff "einzeln" suggeriert Vorstellungen von Alleinsein und Isolation. Die vorliegende Bachelorarbeit beschäftigt sich aus erziehungswissenschaftlicher Perspektive mit dem "Mythos Einzelkind" und der Frage, warum sich Paare für ein Einzelkind entscheiden, obwohl die vermeintlichen Nachteile dabei zu überwiegen scheinen. Aus dieser Forschungsfrage entstehen mehrere Unterfragen, die beantwortet werden sollen: Was sind Vorurteile und woher stammt diese Voreingenommenheit gegenüber Einzelkindern? Welche Defizite werden Geschwisterlosen unterstellt? Und welche Differenzen zwischen Einzelkindern und Geschwisterkindern zeigen sich wirklich? In dieser Arbeit wird ebenfalls die Hypothese von Gordon Allport überprüft, dass ein "Vorurteil [...] eine Antipathie [ist], die sich auf eine fehlerhafte und starre Verallgemeinerung gründet. [...] Sie kann sich gegen eine Gruppe als ganze richten oder gegen ein Individuum, weil es Mitglied einer solchen Gruppe ist." Um die Fragen beantworten und die Hypothese verifizieren zu können, wird die vorliegende Arbeit die Methode der Literaturarbeit anwenden und verschiedene Positionen und Studien mehrerer Forscher und Forscherinnen vergleichen und kritisch und vorurteilsfrei analysieren. Einzelkinder und manchmal auch Einzelkindeltern scheinen in der Opferrolle zu sein, da sie durch das Fehlen von Geschwistern die Erwartungen einer "normal[en]" Familie nicht erfüllen, und müssen daher boshafte Unterstellungen ertragen. Aus dem Grund, dass sich manche Eltern bewusst für ein einziges Kind entscheiden und bei anderen Eltern die individuelle berufliche oder gesundheitliche Situation eine Rolle spielen, gehen Eltern unterschiedlich mit ihrer persönlichen Familiensituation um und daher kann man nicht von einem "typischen" Einzelkind sprechen, das von vornherein einsam, verwöhnt, altklug, liebesunfähig, konfliktunfähig, eingebi
