Denn werden natürliche Ressourcen weiter in dem rasanten Tempo abgebaut, wie es heute geschieht, zerstört dies die Basis der Wirtschaft, unsere Lebensgrundlage und die der nächsten Generationen. Infolgedessen stehen Unternehmen in den nächsten Jahrzehnten vor zahlreichen Herausforderungen: zunehmende Globalisierung, Ressourcenverknappung, Klimawandel, Urbanisierung, Verlust der Biodiversität sowie wachsende Armut. Die Aufmerksamkeit, die diese Frage von Seiten interner und externer Stakeholder bekommt, hat längst dazu geführt, dass die Wahrnehmung ökonomischer, sozialer und ökologischer Verantwortung der Unternehmen zu einem wichtigen Wettbewerbsfaktor geworden ist. Damit wird die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Unternehmen zunehmend auch davon bestimmt, wie sie die drei Herausforderungen einer nachhaltigen Entwicklung in der strategischen Unternehmensführung festigen können, um den daraus folgenden unternehmerischen Chancen und Risiken angemessen zu begegnen. Denn bei der Entscheidung der Konsumenten für den Erwerb eines Produkts oder einer Dienstleistung fließt mittlerweile eine Vielzahl von Faktoren ein. Dazu gehören bspw. das Verhältnis des produzierenden Unternehmens zu seinen Mitarbeitern und Geschäftspartnern, die Einhaltung allgemeiner Mindeststandards für Arbeitsbedingungen in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern, die Umweltauswirkungen unternehmerischer Tätigkeiten sowie die Integration des Unternehmens in das kulturelle und soziale Umfeld. Diese Aspekte spiegeln den Gegenstand dieser Arbeit wieder und sollen unter anderem anhand eines Unternehmensbeispiels der Firma Henkel aufgezeigt werden. Man kann
