Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Didaktik für das Fach Englisch - Pädagogik, Sprachwissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Universität zu Köln (Englisches Seminar), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Nutzung von Computerspielen als Medium im Schulunterricht ist mit Sicherheit keine neue Idee, dennoch ist sie eine, vor der viele Lehrerinnen und Lehrer zurückschrecken; zu irrelevant, zu teuer, zu schwierig umzusetzen, zu unkontrollierbar scheint dieses neue Medium, als dass es sich in der Schule gewinnbringend einsetzen ließe. Obwohl es, zumindest potentiell, einen (verhältnismäßig) großen Markt für Edutainmentprodukte und sogenannte Serious Games gibt, finden sie selten den Weg in deutsche Klassenzimmer. Noch ferner gar scheint es, kommerzielle Videospiele, also rein auf Unterhaltung ausgelegte Software, im Unterricht zu verwenden, und doch lassen sich mit diesen Medien einige interessante Ideen verfolgen. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit zwei PC Spielen (Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures und Portal 2) und diskutiert, wie diese sinnvoll in den Englischunterricht integriert werden könnten. Da es in Computerspielen, wie in allen Medien, "keine Universallösung für didaktisches Design" (Petko/Reusser 2005) gibt, soll dies anhand der zwei Beispiele nur episodenhaft geschehen, zwar ohne Anspruch auf Allgemeingültigkeit, aber mit der ausdrücklichen Absicht, neue Denkimpulse zu offerieren und einen unterrichtlichen Mehrwert zu kreieren. Die Auswahl von Computerspielen als Medium liegt hierbei nicht so fern, wie es vielleicht zunächst scheint: es gehört schon lange zum Alltag von Sprachlehrern, ihren SuS zur Nutzung fremdsprachlicher Medien fern von Textbüchern zu raten; bedenkt man die hohe Relevanz, die Videospiele in der Lebenswelt der SuS haben, ist es im Gegenteil sogar fast schon verwunderlich, dass sie im Schulunterricht noch immer praktisch keine Rolle spielen.
